Are These Legal?
« on: August 25, 2010, 07:14:52 PM »
I'm not trying to sell or advertise anything for this person but my search for U2 stuff keeps picking up on this eBay site, and I have never heard of some of this sh*t!!  Could this be bootleg, or real, or home made?

And why does it say PickUp Only in Italy?  Could this be some 'hyper rare' insider score or something I should watch out for?

There's something sketch about this.
For instance, the first auction for U2' 'The New World' is actually put down as 'The New Word' on the cd booklet/cover.
For being hyperrare, this is interesting.
Also, the font on some of them seem amateurish. Look at the auctions for the Fly.

These aren't official releases, I think. At best, they might be live bootlegs put together in a home packaging.

Just my $0.02.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions, Macphisto.  I heard U2 don't mind us sharing bootlegs, just not buying and selling them.  These copies just seem so expensive, especially if you have to go all the way to Italy to pick them up.  Hmmmmmmm.....

i got the The Fly box. it is not that amateurish i think. it is a 3 cd box containing the new year's eve concert they had at the point in 89 and a show from ZooTV. basically you have 2 concerts in the set.
ther si also the Total Thing, the sound is not very good, but the box looks great, and this is also the very first bootleg i have ever purchased. it contains the first or second night of the Zoo TV tour

There's really no reason to buy a bootleg when you can download just about any U2 concert for free at U2start.com.  Just sayin'.

A friend of mine was lucky enough to buy some of these, and at the time, before all the internet file sharing, this was the best way to get some unreleased material.
These boxes were outstanding value and something special, if not for the graphic design (though the Macphisto one looks good), but the care that went into some of them. These old bootlegs have a great mood/feel to them. Cannot be compared to downloading mp3s...

Bootleg companies probably already went out of business, there's no money in it, so you're not harming anyone if you get one just for the fun and historic relevance of it.

I say if you already have most official releases, get "The New Word" there should be some great rarieties to be found.
