sonic impressions for concert
« on: January 27, 2009, 03:05:45 PM »
Imagine a sound that was distinctly delivered to you at a concert.  Individualized sonic delivery.  I seem to recall some thought of using this in a u2 concert (ala Bono shining a spotlight on audience, but instead of light - sound is delivered via the beam corridor)

Head over to ted.com and search for a talk done in 2004 by Woddy Norris.  It was just posted this week for viewing, but I think it is what inspired the discussion that I've heard previously.

This man is a true innovator. Hmm, CD quality sound via these units for everyone in the stadium? Now that's wicked :)

There was a similar thread to this a while back talking about the Audio Spotlight. Search it on youtube. Pretty incredible stuff.

The Flaming Lips did a lo-tech version of this about 8 or 9 years ago. Everyone received a radio walkman-type thing upon entering the venue, and listened to the show through the supplied headphones.
