The downside is it doesn't have a "well tonight thank God it's them instead of you" moment.

I think Cyndi's lines are the closest We Are The World gets to that... definitely the highpoint of a crappy song.

I like the Band Aid song - and HATE We Are the World. Totally stupid lyrics...  "we are the children"? No, we're not. And "we're saving our own lives" (how so, anyway?) seems pretty self-serving when the point was to feed starving people in Africa. That always really turned me off.

I despise "We are the world" as a song and, after reading Bob Geldof's biography years ago and learning just how self indulgent the USA for Africa artists were, I have little respect for those involved.

I remember the B side on Do They Know included all the stars basically saying Happy Christmas etc, and Bono even had to say "This is Bono of U2, lest people didn't know who Bono actually was, but then this was Christmas 1984.

There's so much cynicism in the world today, it's sad.  I long for the 80's, when there was so much hope and idealism.

Jason ... hopefully you recovered from the WATW issue!  There's a video somewhere of a bunch of Japanese game show contestants dressed in character singing it if it'll help you solve the problem.  In fact ...

I remember Bono said he fought Geldof on that line. He did not want to sing that. That is the only line I do not like in the song. But  Bono sings the hell out of it.  :D
