What is spiritual about Do You Feel Loved? The song is about sex.

And there's nothing spiritual about sex? ;) If you're Bono, there is probably a very clear connection between both.

But, I dont really see the song as about sex. It always seemed to talk about a spiritual love, as the lyrics are similar in a lot of ways to Yahweh:

Take these hands, they're good for nothing
You know these hands never worked a day
Take these boots, they're going nowhere
You know these boots don't want to stray
You got my head filled with songs
You got my shoelaces undone
Take my shirt, go on and take it off me
You can tear it up if you can tie me down

But, then, I guess I could see how it's about love too. You guys probably have some clip of him saying that that's what it is about and I'll feel stupid for how I interpreted it. It's okay. I get it. ;)

Well, it's about how sex alone can't make a person feel loved. You're partially right.

I say that was a bit rude.

You're right. I apologize for that. I really do. *feels like a jerk* Quite a bit of the list is good, but there are certain songs that are placed in areas where I don't think they would fit.

It's the Even Better Than The Real Thing into Bad part of the set, right?

Everyone's interpretation to themselves! U2 songs are intentionally written on many different levels. So I agree with your interpretation more readily than the sex one, because the former applies more to me. Yeah the song is about sex too, but, that's not a part of my life right now so it doesn't mean anything for me in that sense. Songs grow as we grow. Enjoy the process.  :)

You're missing a very obvious God reference.

DYFL is possibly the most carnal song U2 have released. It does yearn for more than sensuality in flesh though.

I totally agree w/ you MarsGirl.  I was totally overwhelmed by the similarity to YHWH about a month ago.  The distinct similarity never hit me so hard before then.

4D you said it well-- their songs are sung/ written on several levels for sure.   And like how you said "songs grow as we grow".  That is so true... I feel like I see different things in the songs as I go along and as I change.

 :D :D

Oh, but from those who think the song is mainly/ only about sex, how does one interpret the last three lines?
It looks like the sun,
but it feels like the rain,
and there's heat in the sun to see us through the rain.

Plus, I always interpreted the lines about the baby "pushing and shoving" in the belly of the mother as having to do with the miracle of life, the creation of life. Again, referenced in Yahweh ("Why the pain before the child is born?").

Life is a spiritual process... even in the very carnal process of creating life... they are intertwined very closely. Yet often at odds with each other religiously, even though they are both a part of each other. I totally think Bono would be drawn to contemplating these two very contradictory messages.... in something that is not really contradictory, but a natural process.

(Do I make sense? Probably not!)
