Actually I find there isn't a great deal of difference if you're in the inner circle between stadium and arena.

Not everyone has the knack of getting under the band's noses as you have, Briscoe, as your perfectly adequate photo's demonstrate ;)

How come you think they're unsuitable? Please excuse my ignorance, but i've only seen a stadium show, so i don't know what is superior about an arena?

I like to feel a part of the show and not feel detached from it which is what I feel in a stadium.  I'm don't rate the so-called 'atmosphere' of the stadium crowd.

I've seen two U2 concerts; in an arena and in a field/natural amphitheatre/hill and I enjoyed the arena show more.




I see... i guess it could be quite alienating when the band is so far away! I suppose 360 makes up for it with spectacle, but yeah i guess i'd like to see them up close and personal next time... i hope they come back to the UK soon  :-[

ZooTV - Vancouver II (November 1992) 35th row on the floor
PopMart -  Edmonton I and II (June 1997) 6th and 8th row on the floor
Elevation -  Toronto I and II, Montreal I and II, Buffalo (May 2001) Front row in the heart all 5 times - 4 times on Adam's side and one on Edge's.

ZooTV made me fall in love with UTEOTW -  I wasn't a huge fan of this song and then it was so incredibly powerful and raw live that I cursed the fact I had underrated it for over a year! It was such a cool, dark, crazy and almost sinister atmosphere - very avant garde for a 19 year old  girl from Central Alberta....

PopMart was fun, but for all the spectacle I barely remember it.  Maybe it was because I was too annoyed I knew too many people at those concerts who weren't even U2 fans were at the concert. Grrrrrrr.

Elevation - what can I say, I saw the boys up close 5 times in two weeks. And I fulfilled my dream of being up against the barricade directly in front of Adam (4 times!  ;D). So obviously this was my favorite tour ever. I also loved the fact that this tour was so toned down - no characters or theatrics. Other memories: Almost slapped a man who was in the heart and asked me "What side does the Edge usually stand on?" and got into an argument with Denise Richards.

And for the record, I prefer arenas.

Joshua Tree- St. Louis, Game 7 of the world series Bono comes out in a Cardinal       
                    Jacket. Place went wild. I was fan of U2 before 1987, but they didn't come to St. Louis for the War or
                    Unforgettable Fire tours

Zoo TV indoor- Miami, Second show of the tour,  
                      It was like what the hell is going on. Great Time Great Show, I was hooked

Zoo TV outdoor- Anaheim, Last Show in the USA, I moved from Orlando to LA,
                    I look back and think how lucky I was to see both shows

PopMart   St. Louis, Good show but at the time little disappointed in the Dome Show

Elevation   St. Louis post 9/11 maybe most emotional show

Vertigo   Seattle, Great weekend to visit my sister and see the band.

Vertigo   St. Louis,  I look back on vertigo now and think its one of most under rated tours.
                 they played some great songs on that tour.

360      Chicago, Opening Night in North America.

I have tickets for Nashville and St. Louis. I love catching a early leg show and then they usually hit my home town at the end. Its interesting see how the show changes.

Stadiums represent a poor gig experience. The sound is invariably bad, the beer is rubbish, there are too many people, they're hard to get home from and unless you either:

a) get there ridiculously early
b) pay a fortune for a decent seat

or

c) don't mind being horribly squashed and pi**ing yourself during the gig

the alternative is seeing the band from a great distance - pointless.

UF Tour - Wembley Arena
JT Tour - Wembley Stadium
ZOOTV - Wembley Stadium
POPMART - Wembley Stadium
Elevation - London Astoria
Elevation - Earls Court X 2
Elevation - Paris Bercy
Elevation - Madison Square Gdn
Vertigo - Twickenham
360 - Wembley Stadium

360 was in the top 5 worst gigs I've seen by any band - anywhere...

Actually, yeah, a little bit. I had just graduated from a Christian high school when AB came out, and I remember being worried (although I liked the album). Then I remember seeing a pic of Bono as MacPhisto and thinking they'd apostatized completely. It really wasn't until I saw the Sydney show live on Pay Per View that I actually "got" what they were doing. Then I moved to Europe soon after and the whole Zoo thing just clicked.

And I've been a citizen of Zooropa ever since....

How does one possibly attend so many shows in a single tour? Do you not have a job? I would think most people couldn't afford to chase a band around the country/continent for so many shows.
