Well my thoughts were, go to at least 3 shows. If I can get tickets for the first gig in Spain then a couple mid way through the tour then I get the best of both worlds. Even if they are not firing on full cylinders for the first gig at least I'll see them later on.

Agreed, opening night shows are nothing special. I saw one of the first 7 shows on the Popmart tour, & believe me.. you were lucky if you were one of the ones who got to see them later on after it'd been rehearsed awhile.

Popmart was the exception though. We know they were under rehearsed. The opening Miami show on the 2nd disc on the elevation DVD looked really good so maybe not all opening nights are poor.

In fairness, they have played lesser known tracks on the last 2 tours. 3 tracks from boy on the vertigo tour and again on elevation.

Not a great amount, though...

I'd love to go to the opening show just for the reason that I won't know what to expect.  After the tour starts, clips will be all over YouTube and the forums and I have no willpower to resist them  :(  I've never been to a U2 show without knowing the setlist, stage, etc prior to the show.

Exactly, the anticipation of an opening gig must be amazing. As I live in the UK this may be the only time i can afford to go to the first show as it is in Spain. I want the whole element of surprise before the tour ends up on the web.
