Are you sure Miracle Drug isn't just Mercy? They sound awfully similar musically and there were no vocals.

They're not THAT similar. One can easily tell the difference between the two

I'm still very suspect about Miracle Drug. One tweet is the only reference to it being rehearsed that I've seen. Nobody on U2start is talking about it.

The so-called 'new song' was probably something from Pop.

You can't really blame any of the younger fans for being unfamiliar with it.

ACOUSTIC MOFO!

LOL!

Back for the South Africa concerts Willie was blogging about rehersals:

Quote
Feb 16 2011'Unplayed Classics'
Cape Town. Rehearsal day.

The backline crew came into the gig early today to set up a rehearsal space in a room in the stadium, so we could make some noise without it being twittered to the entire planet. I came in to offer moral support and give guidance on what it is we might be doing with the band tomorrow. The production load-in doesn't start until tomorrow morning, but the naked skeleton of the Claw is here, sitting in the stadium. It's not a sight I get to see very often and even two years later, it's impressive to see. The structure just looks colossal when it's sitting there in an empty stadium. Mind you, it looks equally colossal in a stadium full of people, so I suppose this shouldn't come as too big a surprise.

There's a song the band want to rehearse which is an album track that they've never played live. The backline crew played it through this afternoon, in order to get the sounds set up and it seemed very promising, so I hope it goes well with the band tomorrow. I'd like to get some more unplayed classics into the music arsenal."

Also this tidbit of info around the Zooropa/Fez they are hearing is probably a run through of the "Questions" clip Willie Williams worked up for Cape Town:

Quote
Feb 17 2011'Eureka Moment'4
Cape Town. Rehearsal day.

"In the rehearsal room Dec & I had some rare quiet time to work. Regular readers are probably sick to death of hearing about our apparently never-ending work on the 'Questions' segue, but after about a year of noodling with it, I finally had a bit of a 'Eureka' moment and realised exactly what we needed to do. I talked with the band this week about that particular moment in the show and what we might do to complete it. They threw some ideas around including reviving a short section of Your Blue Room. I thought this had potential, as I felt that the reason Your Blue Room didn't survive in the 2009 show was not that it wasn't good but that it was simply too long to hold attention in a stadium. A minute-long snippet might therefore be worth a look. However, in a fevered dream a couple of nights ago I realised that the answer isn't Your Blue Room, but that it's Fez, from No Line on the Horizon. Ironically, when I first envisaged the opening of the giant 360 video screen, the soundtrack I had in my head was Fez. I dropped this idea when it became evident that Being Born wasn't going to make the show. I thought then (two years ago) that you couldn't have one without the other but this week woke up and thought 'well, of course we can.'

The result is a glorious mash of Fez, the audience-sourced questions, plus samples from Zooropa, odd bits of Achtung Baby and god knows what else thrown in on top.
Bono and Edge sat with us to help make it all work and we finally (please god) finished it off. I hope I still like it tomorrow, as tonight I'm really delighted with it. I put the finished sound file on a memory stick to distribute to those who'd need to hear it. These little memory sticks form a daily part of the culture of information transfer in the video and audio departments on tour. When you plug one into your computer, a little icon pops up on screen showing its title (usually the owner's name). These memory sticks get passed from hand to hand and may go walkabout for days at a time before being returned to their owner. When I got this particular stick back, I was amused to note that some wag had renamed it "Animal Porn". Just as well I spotted that before heading through customs.

Well, obviously we can't be sure of anything!   :D But I'd think that the main thing there would be if they heard the very distinctive Miracle Drug guitar part ('Beneath the noise...') or the incredibly distinctive backing to Mercy.

And it is being discussed a lot on interference, which is where the report surfaced. Similarly, the u2start report wasn't really being discussed on interference, because it was reported on u2start. To be honest, I'm very sceptical about *all* of them, Miracle Drug, EBTTRT, new song... everything. It's probably just techs and doesn't mean much- I myself heard them try out 'Desire' in Europe last year and never play it. And I still don't believe even slightly that they rehearsed Zooropa or any of those songs before the South African gigs, and am VERY sceptical about them rehearsing Kite.

I'm looking forward to it too, but not really expecting any major changes beyond a dedication of an already-there song to Japan and possibly some of the usual rotations. My guess is the Cape Town set but with Stingray back, UV and NYD in place of HMTM and IWF, and Pride swapped out for something (Probably Desire, Angel, Bad or Stuck).  And, of course, quite possibly Mothers in place of Scarlet somewhere on this leg! I don't expect many surprises on this leg, but if they're there, I think they'll be on the 'third night's.

Prove me wrong, U2!

Me neither, I think what they heard was the mix station rehearsing the new Questions bit.  It's always hit and miss on the rehearsal "coverage".  Fun to laugh about.

Nice. Would figure too. Looking for some shake ups in the set list -- thought of other songs like EBTTRT and Miracle Drug would be great.

But why did they separate Zooropa and Fez? The Questions segment has them both together, not separated by CoBL.

:O One Tree Hill outside Australasia would be amazing (And long overdue). Could we see a show with five Joshua Tree songs again- OTH and Mothers as well as the big three? :o

Also, RHMT snippet is intriguing if only because of Willie's 'unplayed classic' claim....
