I love Under The Milky Way too. I can't really picture how they would do it though.

- Never Tear Us Apart.   pretty screamy but a good beat

- One Step Ahead  split enz

- some guster songs

- paul simon?

I always thought that U2's cover of Tower of Song that they did with Leonard Cohen on vocals for the film "I'm Your Man" was superb - Larry and Adam really lock into the groove. I'd love to hear a version with Bono doing the whole vocal (not that it could ever supplant the extraordinary vocal cut the master did on that track).

I still think Bono could pull off Under The Milky Way. :) I think it would fit into the space theme of the 360 tour. He should snippet it somewhere. :)

Elbow's "One Day Like This"
The Cure's "Just Like Heaven"
Dashboard Confessional "Hands Down"

Instead of just snippets, I'd love to get them into a studio to do a full version of Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division.

It wouldn't work I guess. That song is what it is nothing more (it's a great song, but not a U2 one), and would suffer from a U2 treatment. They would have to change the key anyway, it's too low for Bono to sound good on.

"Purple Rain," if only to hear The Edge do the guitar part at the end -- I think Prince's guitar at the end would be great for The Edge.

Alas, I don't think The Edge has the skill to do it justice.

I agree.  Some of Prince's guitar solos are absolutely mind blowing (end of Lets Go Crazy for example).  Edge couldnt keep up with a Prince solo Im afraid.

When Under the Milwy Way was released it thought it was by U2 for a few seconds. I would have loved U2 to do a cover of that song by I don't know if The Church would grant them permission.

Does he have to get permission to snippet, though?

They could cover those 12 or so songs they've been working on with Danger Mouse for a start

I just don't think they could pull that off :D

I think they could do a lot of Cure songs, and do them well.

I like the idea of Cult - She Sells Sanctuary and James - Sometimes.

Maybe a Rory Gallagher cover since Edge was a fan? Don't know if it would work but I love Cradle Rock and Walk On Hot Coals

Some other sugestions:

Acoustic version of Queen - You're My Best Friend (I think Bono could do a great version of this)
Joy Division - Disorder

To be honest I love the way they play snippets of covers as an intro/outro to their own songs, and I'd rather they stuck to that

If Under the Milky Way was going to get an airing it would have happened last year in Oz I reckon.

Regarding releasing it... I'd be surprised if Kilbey would allow them. He's a bit of a diva by all reports...
