Possibility U2 could return?
« on: June 05, 2011, 03:12:20 AM »
I've heard from a source that U2 are going to announce a date at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland, UK 'very soon', suggesting either a European leg or UK leg of the 360 Tour. Nothing was said about 'dates' though

Now this is the first time I've heard anything from this source so I can't be sure how credible it is.

The reasoned half of me accepts their isn't going to be any dates after Montcon seeing as though The Edge and Willie Williams have made clear the tour will end in Montcon

But the other half of me finds it strange that U2 didn't visit the UK or Ireland on the 2010 European leg

Just putting this out there to see if anyone else has any other info

No more info but I reckon its highly unlikely. As you say Willie and Edge seem to be very clear Montcon is the last show.

I hope this is true.

Stadium Of Light is a stonethrow away from where I live.

However this could be false cos I dont believe that the claw would actually fit in there.

No way this is true (Though I'd love it to be!) - they probably had UK stuff planned if they had released a new album, but Moncton will be the end of 360.

My heart so wants to believe that. But this is not true.

Edge and Willie stated clearly the end of 360 in Moncton, so did the press release of Live Nation. And family Hewson already planned whole August for vacation....

they've been doin this tour for over 2 years now, minus the 4 months or so for Bono's back surgery. I'm sure they're eager to take a breather.

No 'sentimental' return to Ireland or the UK.  :o

As much as I would love for this to be true, I don't see how it can be.

The football season starts on August 13th (the Charity Shield is the 7th), while U2 play Moncton on July 30th. The window where the band are free and stadiums are available is therefore very short. Even if they played during the first week in August, would that give them time to repair the pitch before it was needed?

It also seems an unlikely place for them to decide to play. When coming to England they seem to play London and then one "central" northern city (Leeds / Manchester / Sheffield). Geographically, Sunderland doesn't tick the box.

I sure would love to be wrong though!

I've got a good friend in Sunderland who would love for this to be true, but there's no evidence to support it.

Wishful thinking if you ask me. Any outdoor u2 tour i have attended going back to JT tour, have always had tickets on sale a good 4 months prior to the show. I think if this rumour was true...the tix would need to be on sale...like...NOW!!

They could play a residency at the O2 Arena in London for say, 21 nights, after the stadium tour finishes.

You know, like Pink Floyd did at the end of the Division Bell tour.

How about Royal Albert Hall instead? A lot of history there.

Hold your horses, mate; we can't even get them to play 20,000 seater arenas, let alone the Royal Albert Hall.
