Will "Glastonbury" Be Played At Glastonbury?
« on: June 14, 2011, 10:05:54 AM »
It strikes me as a little odd if U2 don't play this song at the festival it was named after. I also am stumped as to why they have stopped playing it on the 360 tour.

I hope they do play it at Glasto' but only time will tell if they actually do.

What do you think?

I like it, and it would bring some much needed rock'n'roll on stage.

I think so. I even think they might just open with it. That would be bold, but it would definitely rock.

I'm the lone "No" vote. I just think, "What action of U2 would make the most sense?", and then assume they'll do the opposite!

Indeed, verses are shi*e. Chorus is good.

Chorus is very catchy and I think for it to be a perfect rock anthem, the solo needs to be longer and the lyrics need tightening up a bit.

I quite agree. The verses are a bit.... disappointing. But the chorus rocks. They have had enough time to make it great, so I'm looking forward to it.

Setlist spots at this are precious. Glastonbury is not a very good song, and it will probably never go anywhere. Think about what could be there in it's place. What would be better: Another example of unimaginative, poor U2 00s 'rock' via a song that no-one knows and that will probably never get a formal release? Or, say, handing that precious setlist spot over to something like the well known, always impressive, blistering Bullet the Blue Sky?

They probably will play it, they kind of have to now, but it will be a waste and shame.

Bullet should be played anyway, but to me Glastonbury is definitely not in the lame corporate rock cat. Boots, Vertigo or Elevation is (I do enjoy those at times, but they are totally weightless and throwaway).

Glastonbury is above their '00s energy level musically (the lyrics don't matter that much in a one off perf. ) and reminds me of Where Did It All Go Wrong and Even Better. It also reminds me of other bands, like the Who and Led Zep, I think it could work at Glasto, and why I'd like to hear it.

I think so.  I honestly think this should be a single if this new album ever comes out.  It has the potential to be a catchy tune that is the hit they are looking for.
