I just want to see them

In the end, thats all I really want too.  I think people who don't see them because they aren't playing in a certain type of venue are crazy, selfish, and need to look at their fandom in the mirror

Elitism alert! Elitism alert!

I may be a crazy and selfish person, but where the **** do you get off questioning the fandom of people like me?

I witnessed Zoo TV, you know.

I'd like something scaled back. ZooTV, Popmart, and 360 are great, but it's time to age gracefully.

What I really want is a kind of tour when they do a lot with a little.

Like Elevation, with the projectors that they used in arenas.

You're really going to let the fact of whether there is a roof on the building or not and the fact that there's more seats in the building determine whether you see your favorite (or one of your favorite) band play some of your favorite songs?  I can't wrap my head around that.  I just find that to be selfish.  Be glad you have an opportunity to see U2, don't refuse to see them because you don't like the damn building or because you like arena tours better.  So silly I can't even fathom it

And yes, that leads me to believe one is a fan of themselves and their preferences of what type of concert they want more than they are a fan of the band

As long as I get to see them I don't care what they play in.

Arenas or smaller.

Minimal production.

More Elevation-style, less spinal tap Claw type monstrosities

I honestly don't see much difference in seeing them in arenas or stadiums if you're in seats. I'd rather they played stadiums as there are more seats and they cost less. If I can't afford a decent seat, the arena shows are meaningless to me. GA isn't for everyone.
Also, aside from shows with seats on the floor, seating is too far away from the stage to get a good look at the performer anyway. In stadiums, they have better screens.

At this point I'd give half my kingdom for an official tour DVD shot on a night when Bono's voice is working.

checked the mirror, fandom intact.

checked memory banks, still remember my 50+ shows.

added up $$ spent. Crap, that's a new roof !

how exactly is not wanting to sit for hours in traffic both directions to see a sub par perfomance from half a mile away "selfish" ?

What you call "selfish" I call "good judgment"

I had a nice dinner with my family last night, or I could have undergone the torture that is a stadium show. I shouldn't have to pay for the privelege of having a bad, frustrating time.

Ditto tonight when i attend my son's baccalaureate honors presentation at his high school. I will then go home. He will go to U2 though as he was given a free ticket by his girlfriend's dad. He's only going because it will impact his chances negatively of getting lucky later if he doesn't.

I would like to take the train.  There is no train station in my town or within a 20 mile radius and my conservative Republican governor has no interest in expanding the rail system.

And I'm only an hour outside of Manhattan...

Has there always been a Republican governor in your state?
