360 tour has become a nostalgia Zoo TV tour
« on: June 19, 2011, 01:04:23 AM »
Ever since the inclusion of EBTTRT and Zooropa, the set featured 5 Zoo TV era songs (the Batman song or UV, whichever gets played in the encore).

And now the 6th AB song enters the show....too bad for a band that believes in promoting the new music.

I'm beginning to wonder wether all these nostalgia stuffs are just trolling or if people are serious here.

In Rose Bowl, it was a nostalgia ATYCLB Tour.

The difference being ATYCLB belongs in the current U2 era, and being half the age AB is. And it never had 6 songs. It's Zoo TV nostalgia right down to cramming all of AB songs in the front.

And Rose Bowl had 7 songs off NLOTH, and the show opened with 4 of them. It's not even close to nostalgia.

Intriguing tactic, cunningly disguising this 'nostalgia tour' by playing more songs from their newest album than the album they were apparently playing the tour for.

Also, nah, it really hasn't- this was a one-off to prepare for Glasto.

It's a nostalgia tour, period.

If they were confident in their newer material it would be like the Pop tour when they were still playing 7 or 8 songs off the album up till the end.

it wasn't till years later they "decided" they didn't care for Pop, at the time they loved playing the new stuff.

Oh for a return to the good old days when "mediocrity" and "tentativeness" were anathema and not the goal.

I can't be a nostalgia tour if the band doesn't intend it to be nostalgia. And they obviously don't. Glastonbury might be more nostalgic: they stated it would have some 90's feel. But on the 360, they simply dropped NLOTH. They didn't particularly want to play older songs, they just had to in order to drop NLOTH.

just be happy with the setlist and don't have arguments over everything they've ever done and ever will do.

That 6th Achtung Baby song was included as a pre-Glasto warm up.  The 5th AB song (Ultraviolet) made its second appearance in 2 months last night.   And Zooropa was played 3 times on Zoo TV  :D

Yes, nostalgia or not this is the highlight of 360 for me, getting to see a song i figured would never once be played again, live.

And obviously, you're perfectly entitled to that opinion, but saying 'period' implies it's a fact, which ignores something which is a fact- that a majority of those who cared enough to vote on that very question on this forum- three times - disagree with you.

They aren't touring NLOTH anymore. The album is done. It's over 2 yrs old and never connected with anyone outside the hard core audience. Why beat it over the audience's head when they can play songs that the majority of people would rather hear.

In other words, it's become a nostalgia tour.
