2011 Fan Club Release: My WISH
« on: August 05, 2011, 07:25:56 AM »
...wouldnt it be totally awesome if they gave us a good quality CD and/or DVD of U2's set at Glastonbury???

I'm just dreaming here.

It'll never happen.

But use this thread to post your desires for a u2.com fan club exclusive. What would YOU like?

And... anyone else with me on Glastonbury?! I have a low quality bootleg and it sounds like that show was great! I'd like a nice one from the U2 camp!! Dammit!

Currently, the version of MW on there with the Independent Women snippet is my favorite ever MW live version. (Well, with the exception of this really moany one from Sunrise, FL in 2001).

Simply put the next Fan Club release should be Songs of Ascent.

We should get a campaign going and send a nice letter to U2.com. As if that would work!

In fairness to the band and U2.com, I'm pretty sure they don't own the rights as the concert was filmed by the BBC and Glastonbury like to use it for their own DVDs and releases.

I'm sure it COULD be gotten around- I know McCartney released some of his Glastonbury performance on his mega-DVD set for instance, but it's not automatic.

There is no good reason why U2 shouldn't release a fanclub CD of Songs of Ascent. Bono has made it clear that this will never be a major U2 release (since he is so afraid of failure), so why not release it as an art project to the fanclub?

Probably cuz they are going to use some of the original songs from it for their next album?

Who cares. Knowing U2 by the time the next album comes out whatever songs they plan to reuse will become unrecognizable. Look at what happened to Wake Up Dead Man.

I'd be happy with a CD of material I don't already have.

Young Americans is a great MW snippet too, although I'm obviously biased  :D

But "my wish" would be an EP of unreleased songs played on the 360 Tour, but only if those songs will definitely not be included on an upcoming release

Besides that, I would say a live DVD of a show on the final leg of the tour, like NYC or Moncton

I don't think anyone has ever releases a "Live at Glastonbury" set? I may be wrong? I have it on VHS as I taped it on the night off the BBC - just like the old days - and a high quality recording is pretty easy to get when something is broadcast live on TV or radio ...

After the feeling towards Duals was well documented and pointed out to U2.com surely they will try to pull out all the stops on the next one and not simply release a b-sides/remix/live album/etc of stuff that give or take the odd track or two we already have? A full CD of unreleased material is the best and only way to appease fans! If, as Bono keeps saying, they have three or four albums on the go, how about one of 'em as the subscribers gift. That would be pretty daring for a band of U2's stature. Give away a new album to fan club members only ...
