I also remember reading somewhere - though don't ask me where - that they felt this song didn't work live, and the fact that they dropped it from the set relatively early on in the tour - unlike the other AB songs - to make room for a greatest hit would support that view.

I think it sounds ok live, but not as effective as the other AB songs, even though it's definitely one of my top 20 recorded U2 songs of all.

Maybe, if they must play acoustic songs this would be ideal for that slot provided they got it right.

Because it's lame, especially compared to the other songs on that album.  I have pretty much never liked that song - sorry.

The lyrical triumph of U2's love songs category is lame how???

That was from the other side of the mirror.

I randomly played it while a former gf was around and she said,  "oh now I get that song".   I find it perfect, in the right depth.  Maybe they just got happier and dropped it.  We could blame Morleigh.

^this plus

Well, you left my heart empty as a vacant lot (that's the best Bono can do as far as imagery?)

Who's gonna fall at the foot of thee  (do they really need to use Thee just to make it rhyme?)

However, these 2 lines are musical genius:
Well you lied to me 'cos I asked you to
Baby, can we still be friends

See, I think those are two of the more trite and unimpressive lines in the song. To each their own.

It's a shame that Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses has only been played (sparingly) on two tours since it came out.  Such a beautiful song

Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses is phenomenal. They should definitely have played it more.

What about these lyrics (my favorite)-

Took a drive in the dirty rain
To a place where the wind calls your name
Under the trees, the river laughing at you and me
Hallelujah
Heaven's white rose
The doors you open
I just can't close

Looking at history I think it just didn't fit on ZooTV and then got ignored, after an attempt to move it around.

I thought EdgeUK8 was being sarcastic?

My favorite part as well. Stirred up beautiful imagery in my mind when I first heard to (still does). Does Bono sing "bitter rain" sometimes? What would you call this part of a rock song? Any technical names? Like... coda? These are the favorite parts of many U2 songs. Very intimate, with a beautiful melody to boot. Similarly seen on Elevation's :will you tell me something true, I believe in you" <3
