Clearly you would vote for the song with actual meaning and depth (SATS) over the foot-tapping-but-not-much-else song (Desire).

There is a meaning in Desire, if you don't see it you're not looking deep enough.

I don't consider "She makes me horny" to be "meaningful".

What about the other meaning of "Desire?"

Self indulgence and greed, look at Mirrorball man and Desire performances during Zoo TV. There was a reason that persona is put with that song.

Mirrorball Man was a creation well after Rattle & Ham was released. It was a reinterpretation of the song to fit the overall theme of the tour. Much like EBTTRT on PopMart had a decidedly different message and theme to it than on ZooTV and Achtung Baby.

Performances of Desire on Lovetown and subsequent tours strip that mood entirely from the song and return it to its very straightforward theme.

It's catchy, but it's no Zooropa or One.

Oh I wasn't trying to compare it to those. I think its a great track, it just sounded like you were putting down the song.

Desire is pure rock 'n' roll, the way U2 used to do it in the good ole days, be it Lovetown or Zoo TV style.  Definitely a top 30 U2 song IMHO.

No, I'm saying that in a one on one matchup against a song as stunningly deep as SATS, I think SATS is the clear winner.

It also alludes to politicians love of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I disagree.  Depth doesn' t necessarily mean much in rock music.

Even the meaning of Streets isn't terribly deep, yet look where it ranks here.

That's right; the meaning of songs is a largely subjective matter in practice.  Look at the way many people interpret One.

For me, Bono is singing about his tinnitus here:

There's an insect in your ear
If you scratch it won't disappear
It's gonna itch and burn and sting
You want to see what the scratching brings
Waves that leave me out of reach
Breaking on your back like a beach
Will we ever live in peace?

no not enough love for SATS here...... :(
I know!

I find Staring At The Sun to be very deep. So deep I don't know what it means. :P

Obviously I should go listen to it a thousand times to find out! (This is gonna be fun.)

They're just one interpretation of U2's songs.
