Stay has the lyrical quality, but Please has the lyrical and musical quality.

This should be brought back to the live setting, now.

You know what would be really clever TD. Next time we do poll on here, somehow do it by demographic. Not sure how you would do this, but it would be fairer and more interesting.

Maybe by decade. Say three different polls, one for those fans born in the 70's, those in the 80's etc?

Of course you would get dishonesty and trolling, but hey, we could try.

That would be a great idea actually.

I'm not sure how it would be done, since splitting it into 4 decades (70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s) would result in a gigantic amount of poll threads.

However, I would do it not by when the person was born, but what decade they became a U2 fan. Technically I was born in 1993, but didn't really become a fan until the 00s, and not a fanatic until around 3-4 years ago. I think it'd make more sense.

Stay! This song should have been a top 10 hit. Plus I wanted Kite over Please.  8)

This is the toughest one yet for me.  :-\

Out of all of U2's songs Stay is my #2 and Please is my #3 all-time favorite. I guess I should vote for Stay, but I love Please....I'm stumped.  :(

Please.

Wont win. Too many younger fans who don't get what the song Please was all about.

Yes. As someone who has lived his entire life in Belfast with parents who grew up there in the 60s and 70s and who saw the figures on the cover of the Please single on the news every single day growing up, clearly I just don't understand Please as much as you. That's the only explanation for me preferring Stay while still loving Please.

Well, OBVIOUSLY, wasn't referring to you.

Incredibly difficult ten seconds, but I had to vote Stay. It is a masterful pop song, that has no preachy agenda, just beauty.

The bitterness of Please is overwhelming, but lately I've been overwhelmed with despair over local and global politics, so I need no further oil on the fire. Please was however my favourite U2 song for about a year or two.

That was a toughie, both good songs. I'll give the edge to Stay based on the studio performances, probably the other way round for live renditions. I do feel both these songs are slightly overrated by the fanbase, neither have been essential songs for me.
