Oh - what's the point of re buying AB then?

Because it's Achtung Baby

What kind of reason is that? I already own an original CD of it

Well that is the reason they're relying on people to buy it for. McGuinness even said it in an interview that they were intentionally milking the album for all it's worth. And who can blame them for doing it? Seen how many times the likes of The Dark Side of the Moon and Thriller have been re-issued? Millions lap it up each and every time.

Well, it's all a bit cynical isn't it - how much money do the 4 (5 including McGuiness) need. But I guess you're right, if people want to buy it then let them

Don't get me wrong, I don't like it much. I have no problem with the discs of unreleased material, it's mainly the single disc re-issue I take issue with, considering it supposedly isn't re-mastered (I listened to it on Spotify and it does seem to have better sound quality than my album of it though) and also the nature of the re-release.

You never see an artist with an hugely successful album like that refuse profit from deluxe editions and such.

Dunno - U2 have been milking it from the beginning though from Boy onwards. Most bands don't do that

AB re-issue (and its add ons) is the only remastered/re-issue i havent bothered getting. I dont see the point. If i saw a particuarly good deal along the line...i might pick it up....but really not fussed about it

As for the Pop 20th Anniversary, part of me thinks the band might give it the body swerve like they seem to have given R&H (both albums they seem unhappy with)....but if it does get anything, i think it will get touched up a little and that be it

I said this a while back but I really believe that at this point in time, there are no plans to continue the remasters. That's why they included Zooropa with the AB reissue.

Here's a question for you:

If POP had been more commercially successful would U2 have distanced themselves from it? A bit of a central question to the U2 mindset I would say. Would they have convinced themselves it was a good record if it had sold more. The same question could apply to NLOTH

I actually think POP will get remastered. They will re-release the CD with remixed tracks and available will be the Ultimate Incredible One of a Kind Super Deluxe Version. This will include, the new CD, Village People outfit the Edge wore on tour, A crystal Martini Glass with and Olive, 5 never before seen pictures of U2, Footage from 25 shows from the POP Mart tour and a full size electronic Mirrored Lemon (that seats 4 people), all this for only $45,500.00 US. This is a very limited number deal (1-500,000) and will definitely be a collectors Item.

I will pre-order this and skip buying the house I have been saving for.

The reissue trend might have fizzled out before the time this is due.

I think Zooropa was included on there because Zooropa and Achtung Baby shared the Zoo TV tour.

Pop at least had an entire tour to call its own.

Good point. Never thought of it that way. But following that logic they could of not included Zooropa and gave us a pre Zooropa show and saved Sydney for the Zooropa anniversary box set.
