Heart of a Girl is the only song I don't really care for, the rest are good to excellent. Carry Me Home makes makes up for it as a nice extra track. I even like Prize Fighter more than HoaG.

Yea, i'm comin around on the idea of PF being album-worthy. Both are superior to HOAG yea.

BEST ALBUM OF THE PAST 20 YEARS!

Nope.

hahahahha

that was saracasm. i was making fun of AP's new music excitement induced claim of MX being the best of the past 20.

BB isn't even top 2 Killers' best.
but MX is the best album evar.

BB is one of my favs though. it's still not ST

First, *sarcasm. ;)

Second, I only said that about MX because I believe it's true. Heck, almost a year has passed and I'd still say that's true after the dust has settled. Certainly nothing from this year has gotten close.

Anyways, my 2-week report on Battle Born is...it's okay. I'd rank it 3rd, or tied with Day and Age for 2nd. I do love cheesy power ballads, but some of these just seem soulless. Honestly, I think they just gave up their title of America's Best Band, and Passion Pit and Fun. can have a Battle Royale for it.

However, the good songs on this album are FANTASTIC. Flesh and Bone, Runaways, Here With Me, Deadlines and Commitments, and Miss Atomic Bomb are all stellar. It just has too much filler to live up to Sam's Town or Day and Age.

5 off the top of my head...

Blunderbuss by Jack White
Blues Funeral by Mark Lanegan
Celebration Rock by Japandroids
Beard, Wives & Denim by Pond
Sonik Kicks by Weller

You're right. They don't come close. They smash it out of the park.

Ehhh...we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

Only if you've listened to those 5 :-)

Otherwise it's not an educated disagreement.

Darn...got me on that one... :-X

But I have heard a few Japandroids songs, I enjoy their sound!

Haven't listened to any post-White Stripes stuff from Jack White, mainly because I was so dissapointed with the Raconteurs. You're honestly one of the few who's praised Blunderbuss, I've mostly heard that it's decent, but no White Blood Cells.

I'm not a huge white stripes fan, but I think Blunderbuss is my favourite album of 2012. That perhaps has something to do with it, I wasn't expecting anything white stripes like. I think Jack has taken a variety of genres and made them his own, in turn delivering an album that sounds like a history of the blues, yet unlike anything you've heard before.

To bring it back on topic (sorry)...

I think it's what the killers did well with day and age, showing their admiration for the 80s without letting it become a cover act. I think they've failed this time around as they're trying too hard to recreate the MOR appeal of 80s balladry...

Wrecking Ball, Away From the World and Blunderbuss are the 3 greatest albums of the year so far IMO.

Battle Born is such a great accessible album.

I hope U2's next album will be in a similar vein.

Cheers,

J

After giving it a few more listens I really do like it, but it's my least favorite Killers album.

This is exactly how I feel too. It's certainly a solid album and I'm really enjoying it; however, I'd rank it as my least-favorite of their records. It has some great moments but it lacks the intensity and teeth that I came to love them for.
