« on: February 06, 2013, 10:08:48 PM »
Just heard on NFL network that U2 is being considered for the 2014 Superbowl halftime show in NYC... Would be perfect timing with new album and tour.. Cross your fingers.

how many times has any halftime show performer been asked back? legit question. i know Justin Timberlake has done it twice, with Nsync and the infamous Janet Jackson performance. anyone else?

They would be an interesting choice. But which of their songs could go well together with American Football? Beautiful Day? Magnificient? What else?

I hope not - the NFL ought to go hometown for NYC...then again, they should've gone with hometown talent when the Super Bowl was here in Detroit 7 years ago, and we got the Stones instead.   :(

I'm sure their are many artists on the list of those being considered though.

Would they want to if asked? I mean performing for 13 minutes in front of 90-100 million people is certainly a smart idea. And a great way to warm up for a tour...(and sell some extra albums)

Well that would certainly be a good marketing tactic.

The chance of them playing Magnificent is slim to none and slim just left the building.

Well, not knowing what new songs could be, I'd think Elevation or Vertigo could work.  Heck Vertigo would work well considering all the brain injuries surfacing in football... I know that isn't pleasant.  Vertigo really just works because it is something everyone knows and would pump a crowd up.  How often do the musicians and their songs fit in with the NFL anyway.

The NFL definitely has NOT gone with the "hometown flavor"....Madonna in Texas, not a country act...Bruce in Miami, not a Latin flavor, Stones in Detroit, not Kid Rock etc...I'd love to see U2 do it again....we'll see, but I'm not holding my breath...

I could see Vertigo, new song, and a classic like New Years Day, I Will Follow, With or Without You, One, I Still Haven't Found (with choir)
