I could see Vertigo, new song, and a classic like New Years Day, I Will Follow, With or Without You, One, I Still Haven't Found (with choir)

Desire or IWF
New
Vertigo

So much speculation for something that is most likely not going to happen.

Well, not knowing what new songs could be, I'd think Elevation or Vertigo could work.  Heck Vertigo would work well considering all the brain injuries surfacing in football... I know that isn't pleasant.  Vertigo really just works because it is something everyone knows and would pump a crowd up.  How often do the musicians and their songs fit in with the NFL anyway.

hahaha

and yes like i said in the other thread, Elevation and Vertigo are way to similar, no way they'd play both

Oh... I know that, I agreed with that and stated it also in that other thread.  Sadly, it is pop songs that people want to hear, and they have to be upbeat.

The NFL definitely has NOT gone with the "hometown flavor"....Madonna in Texas, not a country act...Bruce in Miami, not a Latin flavor, Stones in Detroit, not Kid Rock etc...I'd love to see U2 do it again....we'll see, but I'm not holding my breath...

I thought Madonna was in Indianapolis...?

Can't see this happening, it would be almost impossible to live up to their first time doing it and even i they managed, it would be nearly universally portrayed as a letdown and showing how they had 'declined'. Just not a good idea.

Interesting.  I heard there wasn't going to be a halftime show for 2014 cause the weather is so cold here in Jan/Feb.

I heard one of the reasons why U2 is being considered is due to the possible bad weather.. Hard to have a dance act when it could be snowing..  This is reason why they were originally not going to have a halftime show and then everyone went crazy..  We'll see..

if they're worried about the weather, something like this - a smaller version, obviously - would keep the weather off whoever plays halftime at MetLife:

the lights mounted on each arm would provide plenty of heat. as long as they're not LED lights, that is.

Exactly.

But like I said in the New Album thread, I DON'T want U2 to do it, but if they did, I think the only obvious song to play is City Of Blinding Lights.  It's generally about NYC, it was inspired by their post 9-11 NYC concerts.  It can be accompanied by a huge light show too.  I'd go:

City Of Blinding Lights
Vertigo
New Song
Where The Streets Have No Name or Beautiful Day

That looks great, but they only have about 5 minutes to erect the stage. Probably wouldn't have enough time to put a roof over the stage.

I'm sure their are many artists on the list of those being considered though.

Would they want to if asked? I mean performing for 13 minutes in front of 90-100 million people is certainly a smart idea. And a great way to warm up for a tour...(and sell some extra albums)

I'm sure there are a lot of artist and people who will be skipping this Super Bowl. I mean, who really wants to be outside at night on February 2, 2014 in East Rutherford New Jersey? The mean temperature at that time of year is 29 degrees fahrenheit and probably lower at halftime which would be around 8 pm in the evening. Snow, Ice, not ideal conditions for a concert, football game, party, cook out etc.

There is a reason why the Super Bowl has almost always been played in Southern California or Southern Florida if its outdoors.
