Hopefully any possible future tournament will include 11 brand new album tracks, and, even more hopefully, one of those might reach the final.

Me too.

Well I mean MOS got pretty high up there.

Streets is obviously a great song, and one of the best live songs ever, but Bad is U2 at it's very best, and when it was performed well live (80's) it was pure magic.

One vs Bad would have been an epic final for me 'cause in my mind it's their best 2 songs. Going with Bad in the final here.

Bad live from Dortmund 1984. U2 at it's live best. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

They've already given us a tome of greatness, I'm thinking they can do just as you've said. In fact, I'm counting on it!

The most appropriate final, for me, would have been With or Without You vs. One.  The two ultimate U2 songs, one from each decade of greatness.

I would have voted With or Without You.

We didn't have this last year either.

I doubt it, not on this forum at any rate.  I think Cedars is U2's best song in over a decade, but in this tournament it fell at the first fence.

Bad. Both are classics, but neither really excite me. It would me more interesting next time to remove the mega hits (one, wowy, beautiful day, these, etc...) first.

If JTBaby runs a least favourite U2 song tournament, I reckon the final stages of that would be more exciting than this final.

What won?  Cedars of Lebanon or The Playboy Mansion?

The two best songs in the U2 catalogue; a VERY fitting final. :) But had to give it to Bad in the end, even if Streets nudges it out live.

Streets.

What's the song about?

Joy, triumph, perseverance, overcoming adversity, breaking on through to the other side, communal spirit, the light at the end of the tunnel, rising from ruin, finding heaven out of hell, hope in the face of despair. Not sure how many other ways to say it, or how it's not obvious. It's the epitome of what made U2 brilliant and spectacularly uncool at the same time, it's the earnestness which had to give way to the irony of the 90s but also rocked in its own time. It's about simply believing even when things are at their worst and emerging triumphant from it anyway. Why do you think it's so often preceded by a downbeat or tragic song in concert like RTSS or One or Bad or Please? Because you need to go through the darkness to appreciate the light.

Pity the music and the lyrics don't do the subject matter justice.

Except that the music is among the most triumphant rock music has ever produced, and the lyrics, while sketches, paint a picture and let the mind fill in the rest. :)
