Are KoL still around ?

Their last album kinda bombed.

Which is everyone outside this forum is asking about U2!

Really ?

NLOTH sold about 3X what the last KOL did, and obviously 360 was a massive commercial success if artisitic flop.

KoL's success is primarily based around "sex on fire" and "use somebody".

Is that a joke?

U2 swing more weight than all of those bands combined.

KOL had the 18th best selling album of the 00's in the UK, U2's best was 96th. . . . .
Not sure what the figures are in the USA But certainly here in the UK U2 aren't pulling up trees sales wise

In the US "Only by the Night" sold around 2 million for KOL. ATYCLB sold over 4 million, HTDAAB over 3 million. Single-wise "Sex on Fire" & "Use Somebody" both went platinum. "Beautiful Day" is gold, though that was released in the dying physical single era. "Vertigo" is 2x platinum.

I don't think U2 has much to worry about. Opening week sales are:
Pop - 347,000
ATYCLB - 427,826
HTDAAB - 840,000
NLOTH - 484,000
So they should be in the 350,000-500,000 ballpark no matter when its released.

i hate to pull a Droo, but who is MGMT? i think i heard a song by them years and years ago.

You've probably heard them and didn't realize it. "Kids" and "Electric Feel" still seem to pop up everywhere I go.

Kids is a song i know Weezer covered, i think i remember how it goes. Oh well screw it i guess the point is i didn't know they were still around. Or a force U2 has to recon with.
Arcade Fire and KoL will sell well, Beck hasn't had a hit single since 05 with Guero, the 2 albums after that were HORRIBLE.

Only by the night outsold NLOTH globally.

U2 will need a great album for sales of the next one to even top NLOTH - They may do so with a great album, but initial sales won't be great u2's stock sales wise and anticipation wise is at its lowest point since their early days.

Thats because it was released in 2008 when all sales and the economy were better and it was released in the early fall, close to the Christmas season. Their next album, Come Around Sundown only sold a little more than 2 million copies worldwide.

^^^^^

No, it was because it had a lead single that radio loved and people loved and it was everywhere leading people to buy the album - which itself was meh. .

I don't think the band fears releasing the album in the company of the other artists with new material. However, depending on how much say Paul McGuinness has, it's plausible that the release could be delayed or sped up as a result.
