What SHOULD It Have Been Called?
« on: August 01, 2013, 03:24:45 PM »
Based on what you now know/believe/think, are there any U2 albums that should have different titles based on the music/Bono's pre-album hype/other factors? For examples:

HTDAAB--Venusian Punk Rock (or Martian Adult Contemporary)

Achtung Baby--One Man's Lie

The Joshua Tree--Desert Storm

POP--The Swing and the Sway

R&H - Heartland
Pop - Staring At the Sun
ATYCLB - Kite/Walk On/Elevation
HTDAAB - Vertigo <hell idk anything other that "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" would of been better>

these are the only titles I didn't like. and obviously i'm all for naming an album after a song title.

I rather like Pop's working title of "Miami".  It could have been evocative, and lent the title track more of an air of significance.

ATYCLB - Elevation
HTDAAB - Vertigo

Of course, that would make all three named after an album track--a trick I'm somewhat unsure about.  But title-wise, I think they're all improvements over the originals.

Exactly. keep it short and simple guys. 3 words or less, not 6 or more.

ATYCLB - Walk On... or anything besides All That You Can't Leave Behind. Seriously... my fingers are bleeding just from typing the full title out...

Atyclb was a great title in so far as it was clearly aimed at his father being terminally ill.  That one didn't bother me.

The one i wish they would have renamed was Zooropa.  I would have called it "slipstream" for the mere fact that U2 wasn't comfortable with the mainstream (pandering to the mainstream) or alternative ( really, playing Neil Young styled songs is the way of the future?).

They were trying to create their own space on a limited timetable and confused the crap out of a lot of people.

Zooropa's title is almost my favorite title at this point given the revelations provided to me behind the reasoning in this thread
