I would rather they work on the album until it is completely ready for release. Releasing an unfinished/hurried album would just lose them their status and many fans. Hope they don't take too long though...

30 sec to mars said they'd wouldn't be back for a long time and came back early
Coldplay said 3 year hiatus, did atlas
+ many more
They won't, I expect it to be Spring next year

What some don't realize (or maybe they just disagree) is that for U2, at this stage in their career and given their stated goals, going back into the studio at the last minute is not a good sign.

Now maybe that's not what they're doing, who knows? But if it is, then it's almost certainly because they either don't think what they've done is good, or because they don't think what they've done will be successful, possibly both.

Or neither of the above and they have some new ideas that they are just really excited about and want to see if it can be even better. I realize this is less likely based on their past, but I still think it is an option. I still think they have an amazing album if they needed to release today, but after 360, I would imagine they are in no rush to tour.

agreed....sounds to me like they looked at the finished product and did not like what they heard..so back looking at new songs...not a good sign :(

Maybe the hunger has gone to "re apply to be best band in the world"? Just makes you wonder how focussed the album will be given Bonos globe trotting lifestyle. They obviously don't write how they used to anymore. I can assume its more of a case of Bono coming in and doing his parts separate after the rest of the band have laid down theirs. Good albums require attention and focus. 3 weeks in a studio then jetting around again don't bode well. Who knows for the delay? Maybe Lillywhite made suggestions when he heard it.

Wasn't their hunger always to be the biggest band in the world?

Something they achieved with the NLOTH album and 360 tour.

It's not how big it's what you do with it - and I should know

If you can't get it through the letterbox, do you always ring twice?
