Back in the studio - second guessing or second album?
« on: September 09, 2013, 08:06:47 AM »
Is U2 second guessing themselves or are they happy with album 1 and they want to record album 2 as Larry had originally indicated there would be two albums? Will they release in March after having already completed a second album?

Ask U2 for a relevant answer :-)

I'm hoping with this much time in the studio they go early 90's again and put out two albums relatively back to back a-la Achtung Baby and Zooropa that have relatively the same feel.

This is more what I'm thinking too. Two albums would be fantastic but at this point we'll be lucky to get one.:)

They will not release two allbums. They're second guessing as per usual. Good or bad, that's what they're doing...

Yes .... and No ...... U2 never know until the day they release it. If it was up to them they would be in the studio forever. Paul McG probably has to set the date.

The less pessimistic side of me wants to believe that U2 delayed releasing an album to give Adam and his wife some time to build their marriage. But second-guessing is a way of life for the band, and regardless of the reason, this was entirely predictable.

Then again, something else might have happened: A la HTDAAB, could one or more of the band members voted not to release a nearly-complete album?

Second guessing. And no, it doesn't mean the album will be worse for it, as they heavily second guessed all their best albums too, and their worst ones are mostly those they should have gone away and thought about some more. This doesn't mean it'll be any worse... but it does mean it'll be further away, unfortunately.

Well then it's confirmed the first album is done. Lillywhitewashing is the final step.... They're working on entirely different stuff right now....

Well, this band has a track record of second guessing themselves, so that is probably what's happened. This time, the reworking of the album into something more commercial sounding might be called Iovinewashing, if the label didn't like the 1st draft of the album they reportedly finished earlier this year.

I have a pessimistic feeling about the number of songs the album will carry in the end: no more than 10. That means not enough songs for the long period of time they have been working on them. It also means more songs will be archived when instead, they ought to be put out. Especially seasoned artists tend to lose their feeling for which song is good enough to put on an album and which song isn't. U2 also have got a track record there.

I think its safe to say U2 produced many tracks with Danger mouse and I think we can assume it was an albums length considering the fact that people close to the band and even some fans got to listen to it. Now I think they are seeing what else they can produce as they may have hit a musical vein as such and come up with some great ideas for songs, whether Dangermouse will come in and have his input in on it next year is yet to be seen but looks to be just the band at the moment doing this unless anyone can possibly suggest that Dangermouse is with them at the moment ?
