As much as I would fangasm, I'd probably leave him be. He obviously came as a fan of said band, so maybe I would comment or ask on what he thought of the show or something along those lines.

I couldn't care less if I were next to one of them at another band's show. I'm there to see someone else, and I'll be singing along with that band's songs.
Having said that...if I were next to Bono or Edge at a Bowie show, we'd be singing the harmonies to all the songs together in no time.  8)

I'm going with option #1, in hopes that he, especially if it's Bono, will appreciate my respecting his privacy and then I could possibly wind up with option #3. It is Bono after all. ;D  8)

If it's in the next couple of months I would ask them where the bloody new album is?

None of the above. I'd simply just buy him a pint.

I'd just look at him and say 'thankyou' and leave it at that.

Ask if I could take a photo and say thanks.  Then if he engaged in conversation, that would be fantastic.

Brilliant. I'm totally stealing your idea if this ever happens to me.  ::)

Bono - I'd tell him to remove his ridiculous glasses
Edge - I'd engage him in a staring competition and see who blinks first
Larry - drummers are by definition boring so I'd ignore him
Adam - I'd pinch his ar*e
