ATYCLB

I reaffirmed that its my favorite U2 album
AJ no  :'(
I really don't see whats wrong with it besides Elevation

wait its your fav album and the only song you dont like on it is Elevation....? wild honey and the boring 2nd half or what made me forget it.

BHN would be GREAT with 3 minutes edited out of each song. As it is, the only song that got a good trimming for the radio was Stand By Me

I think Elevation is the most redundant song on ATYCLB.  They should have just kept it for their film song work and completely separate from their album work.  I actually quite enjoy Wild Honey; it's a pleasant little tune and is easy on the ear, unlike much of the album.  D'ya know what I mean?

a pleasant enough tune for a b-side, yea. it's by no means album worthy and i have to wonder what the thought process for including it was. Both ATYCLB and HTDAAB are very front loaded, the first 5 tracks off each are easily the best songs on each album. I love New York for breaking up the snooze-inducing second half, and i am a fan of OTTS, but the 2nd halves are otherwise boring.

Front-loading albums shows a lack of commitment to the album format.  It's as if they don't put some of the crappier songs near the front because they think the listener will lose interest and give up listening to the album and then they'd miss out on hearing the better songs.  Could you imagine U2 front-loading their '90s albums in that way?  But see, those albums were consistently good throughout, so they didn't need to do that.

Imaginary Friend beat me to it. There has to be a reason why all of the singles from The Joshua Tree are on the first side (like all the singles from ATYCLB are on the first half). And side one has better individual songs than side two.

Songs of Faith and Devotion by Depeche Mode, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway by Genesis, and A Tonic For the Troops by The Boomtown Rats have all been listened to by me today. Now I might make the commitment to listen to The Wall.

Its not really my favorite album because it has the greatest songs on it. I think Achtung Baby has the best songs but ATYCLB flows as an album better (minus Elevation).

I think they did front load the Joshua Tree and The Unforgettable Fire, it's just that it doesn't seem so glaringly obvious because of the quality of the side 2's.

Noel Gallagher conceived one of the very best debut albums of all time while still working on a building site.

I'd put it up there with Led Zeppelin 1 and Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos.

was he a construction worker? huh?

and yes i'm aware the popular consensus is JT has a boring second half. I couldn't disagree more. Ill take OTH, MOTD over WOWY or ISHF. and IGC has always been a JT favorite of mine. But yes i see your point, i just think that even then the 2nd half could be listened to on it's own and hold my complete attention. ATYCLB/HTDAAB? HA.

THRILLHO: I agree with you to a point...I think OTH and IGC are the 2 best songs on TJT. Far from the popular consensus, but whatevs.

They're just surrounded by substandard stuff. The back halves of TUF, ATYCLB and HTDAAB don't drop off nearly as hard, if only because none of those albums have anything on them nearly as bad as TTYW.
