I had no idea they were releasing something new. I'm still grooving on Vice Verses every so often. Thanks for the heads up!

 :)

On Switchfoot's Facebook page, some long-time fans say it's too pop, and synth a la Coldplay, and not rock enough. It's a fun and catchy mix; the first track is very Switchfootish. Ba55, Track #7, is terrific and a bit late 60s Beatles-esque. Love it! :)

Just saw Switchfoot last month and was going to try and save some $ for U2 shows this year, but Switchfoot has made me need to go to their show here in March, especially if they play this new album in its entirety or nearly so. Both times I've seen them, they've gone all out to make it a memorable show for their fans. They did a Beastie Boys tune last show; can't recall why. Also, for one of their engineers they did a kick butt cover of Seven Nation Army since he was from here and they performed about a mile from Ravens Stadium. Jon again went into the crowd, singing all the while, worked his way through and then climbed up onto a beam right in front of us for a few songs, scaring us completely and his band mates too it seemed.

Really hope this new album is huge for them. They deserve it!

Meddle

Is someone going through the PF catalog in order?  I see you listened to two of PF's better but somewhat (rightfully) overshadowed albums.

I am indeed, having just gotten the Discovery box set.  I'm not sure it was COMPLETELY necessary since I had copies of the albums before, but it's made for a good excuse to do a chronological run-through.  I actually enjoyed Atom Heart Mother a bit more than expected this time around.  I'm looking forward to Obscured by Clouds next.

EDIT: Finished Obscured By Clouds. What a great album.

The Dark Side of the Moon.

The leap between the albums that came before it and this one is astounding.  As good as Meddle and Obscured by Clouds are, you get to this one and just go....."how the hell did they do this?!"  There's no silly San Tropez or Seamus, or some of the not-QUITE-there songwriting on OBC.  The only bad thing about it is that it's SO engrained in my memory, every note, that it's hard to listen to with "fresh" ears.  I zone out and find myself suddenly in the middle of the album.  It's not that the album is boring, but that it's just so well-known, and frequently played.  I did manage to play some of the unreleased tracks afterwards, since I had extra time on my commute.  Wish You Were Here is next.
