Yesterday saw 4 albums getting played over here:

A Gary Numan best-of comp
All That You Can't Leave Behind - U2
Fumbling Towards Ecstasy - Sarah Mclachlan
Presence - Led Zeppelin

...it had been a looooong time since I really cranked up the volume on ATYCLB. Damn good mixing throughout, and Adam & Larry were really bringin' it on those songs. Gotta listen to the whole thing more often.

The Dark Side of the Moon.

The leap between the albums that came before it and this one is astounding.  As good as Meddle and Obscured by Clouds are, you get to this one and just go....."how the hell did they do this?!"  There's no silly San Tropez or Seamus, or some of the not-QUITE-there songwriting on OBC.  The only bad thing about it is that it's SO engrained in my memory, every note, that it's hard to listen to with "fresh" ears.  I zone out and find myself suddenly in the middle of the album.  It's not that the album is boring, but that it's just so well-known, and frequently played.  I did manage to play some of the unreleased tracks afterwards, since I had extra time on my commute.  Wish You Were Here is next.

Yesterday I listened to the DSOTM album and then the live performance of the album from 1974 back to back.

Very cool.  I really wish the band would have thought to simply release the FULL live set from that show.  You can combine it with the live tracks from the WYWH set, but we're still missing Echoes.

Someone on an album art site I go to went so far as to create album art specifically for the full live set.

While no live performance can match the studio album, that live version of Money is rather sexy.

I'm listening to Highway 61 Revisited (again) right now. I mean to pick up Blood on the Tracks next.

Blonde on Blonde is still my favorite, but Blood on the Tracks after a complete listen has risen significantly in my estimation.

Folks who like Blood on the Tracks should check out the bootleg New York sessions for that album. It rivals the finished work.

I finished Wish You Were Here. On many--maybe most--days, it's my favorite PF album.
