"Bono" on INXS tele movie
« on: February 16, 2014, 03:49:37 AM »
A Tele-movie called - "INXS - Never Tear Us Apart" aired in Australia over the last two weeks, it tells the story of INXS from the early days till the day Michael Hutchence took his life.
There are many U2 references in this film, mainly about U2's popularity, and success during the 80s and early 90s.
It even touches on Bono and Hutch's friendship, there is an actor (not sure of the name) that plays Bono.
Accent/voice is spot on, but the look is very stereotypical. Looks more like Chris Martin than Bono tbh.
It has a special scene of Bono/Hutch having dinner together, drinking wine together, than dueting together on a piano, with Bono giving Hutch advice, they seemed to have a really laid back, honest and loving friendship.
It also touches on how Hutchence asked Bono whether he'd be Tiger Lily's Godfather, but Bono refused due to his friendship with Bob Geldof, Hutch calls Bono a 'wa**er' and the scene ends.

If you get a chance to watch it, do so. INXS are one of my other favourite bands, and this was really catchy, thrilling and accurate depiction of this once great band.

Exactly right on the sounds like Bono looks like Chris Martin! Thought exactly the same thing.

Whole thing is pretty average.

Anything 'made for tv' in the biopic space usually is.

I used to love INXS. Bigger fan of them than u2 in the 80s.so sad what they've become.

Haha Great Minds... It took a while to register that was supposed to be Bono.
These last few scenes are heartbreaking, well made, especially with the acoustic version of Don't Change.
Same, I grew up in an INXS/U2 household. Loved Michael, so, so, so much. These scenes are hard, tear jerking, I was always fascinated by Bono's and Micheal's friendship

Yeah. The best thing about the whole show was the actual footage. The rest of it was pretty crappy.

I want to see this because I'm a fan, but biopics are usually pretty predictable and sensationalized... Whatever. I'll watch it anyway.

That is more than I was hoping for for a scene with Bono. Sounds interesting.

Seems the Age didn't rate the performance

The worst thing about it? Hands-down, the woeful portrayal and scripting of Bono (Brendan Barnett) whose character's only use seemed to be proving Hutchence had moved into the celeb pop stratosphere in his final years.

I thought that was some of the best TV I've seen in a long while (apart from the bloke who played Bono not looking a thing like him). Fascinating viewing, but I wonder how much of it actually happened or was sensationalised.

The ending was very moving indeed, especially the part where the rest of the band found out about his death. The Never Tear Us Apart bit at the end was the perfect finale. Nice to see Michael Hutchence portrayed in a good light rather than the sordid, made up guesswork the press have obsessed with for years. An all time great of the music industry.

Just got to watch this today, I'd love to know more about Michael and Bono's friendship as movie made Bono look like a bit of a wa**er to be honest.
