Explosions In The Sky would be an amazing opening act.  They are a post-rock instrumental band with 3 guitarists, bass player, and drummer.

Just watching the Moshcam Youtube video of their set in Sydney makes them shoot toward the top of my to see list.  A song like "Greet Death" would make perfect sense in a SOI tour

Did you see the article on Metric's break in Ibiza and their opinion of the U2 Apple deal? They want to work w/ U2, to produce too!

I think they'd be terrific as openers!

Personally, I think Explosions would be an awesome openeróI saw them live once, in 2008óbut honestly I think they'd bore the pi*s out of "casual" fans of not just U2, but casual music fans in general (lots of whom seem to end up at U2 shows). And heck, Explosions are the more acceptable edge of so-called "post-rock."

Though U2 have been courageous in the past with openers, so who knows. Personally (again), I don't think they'll get any better than PJ Harvey in 2001. I am still pi**ed that I couldn't get tickets for those shows and had to settle for No Doubt in leg 3.

thanks for that.   :)

I do disagree with one point they made: that they weren't ready for the backlash. I'm sure the people at Apple were stunned by it, but I have a suspicion that U2 were hoping that at least some of the people who didn't want it would explode in anger all over the internet. Mission accomplished. Thanks for working as unpaid promotion staff, complainers!

I also need to add Zola Jesus to my list above. Her new album Taiga is right up there with Mastodon's and U2's albums as Best Of 2014 as far a I'm concerned. Y'all need to ckeck her out. 4 killer albums since the beginning of 2010 or so - hardest-working goth girl in show business!    8)

My pleasure and I've heard of Zola Jesus, but have no idea what she's like. Mastodon? Must admit this would be new for me too!  ;)

Now if Bono wants to say something is Punk, I think your analysis of the release of SOI would qualify. Wonder if Tim Cook is ever going to speak to Bono again?! lol! He is, don't worry. Jimmy will make sure.  8)

Something happened to me w/ Bastille. Loved them and now I'm tired of them and don't want to see them live.

My dream opening act would be Switchfoot.

Thirty Seconds to Mars would be good too, but they can be similar sounding. Well, Switchfoot is a very similar feeling to U2, so maybe they should go w/ something different.

Ed Sheeran
Jake Bugg
Stereophonics
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Royal Blood
London Grammar
Metric
The Joy Formidable

I'm really liking the idea of a solo young male artist for the vibe of this album. If not that, then an all male rocker group.

Is it out of the realm of possibilities that Adele could open for a few shows? She could make a quiet return after her baby hiatus and it could be around the time she puts out a new album.  (I'm not really an Adele fan, but she is good at what she does and had the biggest record of the last several years.)

I would say yes if U2 were doing stadiums still. But most likely, it'll be in arenas, and currently Arctic Monkeys are a festival headlining act, so I think they're too big.

I can see royal blood being an opener for them, up and coming band.

They selected them tonight as well as part of the playlist for the show tonight...

I hope they do.

Stereophonics and U2 in the same night would be amazing.

BRMC make some sense to me, I would love to see the Arctic Monkeys but I think they are getting a little to big for that. (At least in their own mind).

Kasabian would be cool.
