7 years for the second Stone Roses album
« on: March 10, 2014, 05:35:00 AM »
.....and that was rubbish! U2 need to tell it like it is and admit it's over. The last few albums have been crap (and I think they know it). Vertigo vs The Fly? No contest. The truth is Bono does a different job now and he doesn't entirely focus on the music. I bet he rocks into the studio and goes 'oh no, what are we going to do? "Shall we call Chris Martin (FFS) and ask him what's going on in the world of music?"

Put the knackered horse to sleep once and for all. Hopefully Adam will make a solo album and get The Klaxons etc to guest on it. That would be much more interesting.

Whilst i am of the view that u2 have been on a steep downward spiral for a long time - i don't think it is time to write their obituary yet. . .

It's going to take something special and for u2 to really want it to be great again, but a band who have been as great as u2 have a fighting chance of finding greatness again.

Do they have the fight, we will see?

Sorry to be an Stone Roses geek here, but it took 5 years, not 7.

And why did it take 5 years? They had a shifty manager. Signed a stupid contract for loads of albums that they couldn't get out of. They had court apperences to attend to because they decided to paint the house of the man who re-released Sally Cinnamon without their consent.

By the time they went into studio, there were no songs because the spark had gone. Squire was the only one writing the songs, they were recording all their own.

I think U2 are in a different situation.

Vertigo >>>>>> The Fly

The reason why the fly is so regarded around here is because of what it stands for (radical shift in U2). However IMO Vertigo is a waaaaay better song that rocks 100x as hard as the Fly.

My Bloody Valentine went over 20 years between album and came back with a killer. So did Steely Dan.

Just sayin'.   :P

U2 will never create an album title as clever and as tounge-in-cheek as Second Coming. And they are insanely funny.

the solo in The Fly alone makes it better than Vertigo. And the lyrics.
