                                                 U2 SHAME

The word SHAME appears often in U2's music

" You broke the bonds loose the chains carried the cross of my SHAME "
                                                                                          ISHFWILF

" I'm here without a name in the palace of my SHAME Love ( GOD ) rescue me "
                                                                                                  LRM

" Then there will be no time for sorrow Then there will be no time for SHAME "
                                                                                                  TPM

" Please don't let me out of here , I've got no SHAME "
                                                                                                  WITS

"Grace she takes the blame she covers the SHAME"
                                                                                                   Grace

" Face down on a pillow of SHAME"
                                                                                        RBW

"I'm naked and I'm not afraid my bodies sacred and I'm not aSHAMEd "
                                                                                                   Troubles

The need for salvation or spiritual cleansing has been apart of U2's music since the time of Oct and is a big part of the U2 code.

"Come let us reason together says The LORD though your sins be as SCARLET they shall be as WHITE AS SNOW though they are red as crimson they shall be as wool"
                                                                                                         Isaiah 1:18

A great version of this is from Rotterdam:

Yeah, not really funny just deeply prophetic. Shards of glass? Wow! Other artists have predicted such catastrophes and I think I posted about them in the past. Some finger pointing people have even blamed artists for writing a song a good ten years before 9/11 because it was so accurate.

Check out this song, Limo Wreck by Soundgarden.

Reminds me of Dutch author Cees Nooteboom. In january 1975 while visiting NY he wrote about the twin towers (this is my bad translation, i'll include the original Dutch underneath):

"There they stand at the river, those two towers, shining silver, reducing all around them into old fashioned and yet somehow fragile, vulnerable, something that will not last and one day will collapse with a sigh, crumpled like a packet of cigarettes"

prophecy, coincedence, or were they just a symbol of a world that inspired many thoughts and acts, both good and bad.

mr. Nooteboom lived around the area i did when i still lived in Amsterdam and one day he called me 'the lady who always goes out to dine'. well, i'm still waiting for thát to become true ;-)

(sorry for letting myself be led somewhat off topic in an otherwise interesting thread)

                                           " INNOCENT and in a sense I am "
                                                                                  Wire

The code patterns in U2's music have continued with SOI, and my prediction is it will continue with SOE and SOA. The clues are in their titles Innocence, Experience, Ascent.

SOI musically followed in the footsteps of TUF just like predicted earlier by introducing a new production team.

Thematically it has revisited its post punk trilogy Boy, Oct, and War and their themes of innocence, innocence lost, spiritual rebirth , and spiritual warfare.

" I went out there in search of EXPERIENCE to taste and to touch
and to feel as much as a man can before he repents "

SO Experience will most likely revisit the sonics and themes of TUF, TJT, RAH, AB, Zoo, and POP.
It was with these 6 albums that U2 began their musical /spiritual  journey.

" And You know it's time to go "

" I want to run I want to hide "

" Lover out on the street gonna
go where the bright lights big city meet "

                                         " I'm ready for what's next "

" And I have know compass and I have no map "

" You wanted to get somewhere so badly "

SO Ascent will revisit the themes and sonics found on ATYCLB, HTDAAB, and NLOTH , all three  used metaphors for spiritual ASCENSION with song titles such as Elevation , Vertigo ,  and No line on the HORIZON.

" High Higher than the sun "

" I'm getting ready to leave the ground "

" Escape yourself and gravity "

I really believe if this trilogy is completed it will be U2's final trilogy, and will be a fresh recap or retelling of their entire career a sonic " Pilgrims Progress ".

" It is always hard to understand the purpose
of wilderness wanderings until after they are over "

                                                                               John Bunyan

both the bands first and most recent albums begin with...

"I was..."

This implies that Bono has been reincarnated, he is singing about his previous physical incarnation and in doing so circumventing the usual Christian beliefs. He is clearly promoting a Buddhist system of beliefs and values.

Great addition to the code Briscoe , I totally missed the lyrical connection with I will Follow
and The Miracle
                         " I was on the inside " "  I was chasing down "

It gives credence to the Post Punk connection, thanks :).

As for the reincarnation and Buddhism I think not .
