Possible trojan while accessing the main site?
« on: March 21, 2014, 10:26:30 AM »
Hi folks. Today while entering @U2 home page I got a report of a possible trojan trying to access my computer account. Fortunately, my antivirus removed the threat, but it happened to me twice today, both times at this site home page. Nothing suspicious happened when I entered the forum directly.
   Anyone experienced something similar?

I've haven't been able to get on the main page since this morning. It's either blank, gives me an error message, or said I had to download a program to view a video (which is probably the trojan threat your antivirus picked up.) I just closed out of the screen and didn't click on anything.

I'm able to access the home page without any anomalies.  I can send a message to Matt to look at this thread and see if he knows what's going on.

I'd really appreciate it jen  :D. I think it has to do with this new poll result on Invisible vs Ordinary Love.

We were hit by a brute-force server attack coming from Europe and they eventually had a hit on our passwords and got in to the main site. They uploaded the trojan/virus files that were causing what some of you experienced. I apologize to everyone who had to deal with those issues.

We took the site down for about 15 minutes and restored things from a recent backup. Our hosting company believes that everything is fixed now, but they spent extra time scanning directories and such, and we're also keeping an eye for anything unusual that comes up. It's been 3-4 hours now, and all seems normal to me, thankfully.

The forum is on a different server than the main site, so this wasn't impacted.

If you ever see/experience anything unusual like this, posting here in the forum is helpful, but we may not see it right away. If you can't use the Contact page on the main site, please send an email to webmaster-at-atu2-dot-com.

Thx gang, and sorry again for the hassle earlier.

Don't they wish it was as simple as the poll result!

Thanks Matt! Another good reason for everyone to have antivirus software!

You're welcome.

And sadly, any site can get attacked like this.
