In Dublin? I thought they all were in London.

Don't think they're in London.  Reckon I've seen him about once a week over the past month or so...driving down my road in his old silver S class Merc...I live near him too!

I guess Bono was spotted in Ireland over the weekend. I can't remember where at the moment.

Just back to this - as Larry passed that day he was saying to the person he was with "... is it the right decision?"

I wonder was he talking about giving it away for free?

Did you see him in the USA or Ireland?

....just to correct my earlier post.  Larry's 2007 S Class Merc is of course black and not silver!  I see him in it on our road very regularly.

Ireland. They all live in Dublin. Larry lives on the "northside", which is just across the river from the "southside" :-) which is where the other three live. I could show you their houses if you were ever here. I've seen three U2 members in the flesh around town at various stages over the years (the exception was Adam). U2 sightings are pretty common in Dublin, and generally they are ignored. At least, no one bothers them.

Except me. I bothered Bono once. :-)

I met him in 1997, just before Pop came out. I posted this at the time on a U2 newsgroup:

Here's what happened:
I was waiting in my car at a junction but couldn't move out because this big brown
Humber was parking on front of me and taking a long time to do it. I was thinking
"C'mon, C'mon" (I was in a hurry), when I looked at the driver - and it was Bono! OK,
I thought; I can either keep going or pull over and meet him. How often does that
opportunity come along? So I pulled over, and he had parked and was still sitting in
his car singing along to the radio. I knocked on his window and he looked up,
somewhat surprised. He was obviously curious as to what was going on. The
conversation went like this (I tried to remember it all):

Me: Can I shake your hand?
Bono: Yeah, sure! (shake hands. Bono's face brightens up as he realises what's going
on). How's it goin'?
Me: Fine, fine (etc etc). How are you?
Bono: Good, good..(etc etc)
Me: Eh, I'd just like to say that I'm a HUGE fan!
Bono: Oh, thanks, yeah.
Me: And I think "Discotheque" is BRILLIANT. Absolutely BRILLIANT.
Bono: Oh, cool; thanks.
Me: What's the new album like, is it like "Discotheque"?
Bono: Well, the first few songs are kind of like that, but the rest... there's a lot
on it, a lot going on.
Me: More like a "Passengers" vibe?
Bono: Well not as experimental. There's a lot lore 'songs' on it. The sounds are
still experimental, but...
Me: More like 'structured songs'?
Bono: Exactly. What's your name?
Me: Rob.
Bono: (shake hands again). Alright; good man, Rob.
Me (finishing up): You should come up to the Summit [local bar in Howth, Dublin -
where I live, and Larry's home town] for a pint - I saw you up there last Christmas
[which I did - very briefly. He and Larry ran into the toilet and ran back out again,
and sped off in a car].
Bono (laughs): Oh yeah, I love it up there, man!
Me: Well, you should come for a pint, man!
Bono (laughs): Yeah, yeah.
Me: Alright, take care. See ya.
Bono: Alright, see ya Rob.

And that was that. I walked away a better man. I was shaking so much when I got back
into my car. I couldn't believe it, I'd just MET BONO!!! I had so many questions
running around my head, but I figured I wouldn't bother him too much. Although he was
very, very friendly and nice, and totally 'un-popstar-like'. Just an ordinary bloke,
really. "

Its still one of the highlights... not of my life but just a great moment. He was indeed cool. I remember he was wearing stripey trousers and was singing along to something on his car radio as I was coming up to him. I may have slightly scared him at first as I'm 6'5" and was wearing dirty mechanic's clothes at the time, which is the reference to the "brightens up" part at the start. I remember a quote at the time which stated they were home so long they nearly forgot they were rock stars... I reckon he probably thought I was going to tell him he was parked in my space as he really did look at me warily while winding down the window.

Looks like he was right about the "first few songs" being like Discotheque - DYFL, mofo, etc.
