i think the only thing that would stop u2's participation on x-factor is the whole simon cowell soap opera and all that goes with him. if they participated in anything with his grimy hands all over it then i'd be disappointed. thing is, from a $ point of view, many people would put u2 in the same camp as him, so it mightn't be that far-fetched.

U2 aren't taken seriously anymore from the people I know and some of them have been fans for decades......it's sad what's becoming of them..........really is.

Not sure about that... The 90's, no matter how much I loved them,  sounded a lot like U2 trying to fit in in the new electro music scene. Surely they brought it to another level with their craft but the original idea was to be a part of the musical scene of the 90's. it worked well (Achtung Baby & Zooropa), then not so well (Pop was released the same year as Radiohead's OK Computer, Bjork's Homogenic, Chemical Brothers 's Dig your own hole  & Prodigy's Fat of the Land). By then they were already off that scene...

I felt in the 90's they used some underground tones in their sound........but now they want to fit in with the teeny boppers, doesn't make me feel comfortable

I remember that U2 was far from being the headline act at the "Free Tibet" concert in 97. No matter how hard they tried, they were not attracting the hip kids anymore.

I don't think Simon is being taken seriously anymore. All of his shows have run their course and he's not willing to give up on them yet. He's desperate.

didn't they already have a gig that night? they went on first at Live8 for that reason.

personally, I hope this happens, just to see the reactions here.   :D

"First TV performance in years"? ???

Anyways, I really hope this doesn't happen. Doing Leno's show years ago was bad enough.

If this were to happen I would have no choice but to burn my entire U2 collection and to wipe them from my memory.
