Next Tour Opener?
« on: October 07, 2014, 11:38:01 AM »
I know there's already a thread about this, but I thought it might be interesting to poll people's thoughts. For the choices, I've  just listed any SoI song suggested in the existing thread.

What do you think will be the opener on the tour for Songs of Innocence? One of the SoI tracks? Invisible? An older song, like EBTRRT? Something we haven't heard yet, like Stingray Guitar on 360? Or will U2 return to their occasional 80s tradition of multiple openers? (Perhaps more likely now due to Adam's comments about 2 shows)

I understand that Miracle is the 1st single and all, and it does have that sound the band could use to open a show. However, I think California would work incredibly as an opening song. It has the long "Santa Barbara" intro which they could come out to, and the song is catchy, lively, and a perfect way to start the show off with a bang.

If they are doing multiple shows then I don't see any reason why they can't have different openers. I saw Springsteen 3 times on his last tour and each show had a different opener. this would keep it fresh for the audience who would go to multiple shows.

California. To me, it either has to kick off the show or at least kick off the encores.

The Miracle.  The chants and that opening sharp guitar, there's no way this song isn't the opener.

i think the miracle will open most nights, and if the rumours are true about the tour name, 'volcano', that song is probably going to be second. i don't think it would work as the opener. great song though. as someone else has said, california would work as an opener too.

Yah I think either The Miracle,California,or Invisible. The Miracle would also work well as the First Encore Opener.

I think a rocked out version of Invisible would be great with a quick seage into The Miracle then maybe Wire ,A day without me or  Rejoice, and then California followed EbW.

I think it would be epic if they started with a Crystal Ballroom dance mix in the style of PopMusik, walking through the crowd, then playing out the song as they take the stage and running it into the Miracle.

I think one way to keep giving the audience some sense of surprise (in these cell phone video times we live in) is to switch up the opening.  I know U2 typically doesn't work that way, but I think it would be cool.  Then we could debate some more as to what works best as an opener.

The Crystal Ballroom should open for The Crystal Ballroom Tour.
