What's Going Through Their Minds Right Now?

I wonder what's going through U2's minds in the run up to the first show of the tour?

I don't think so. It's hard to say, but I'm sure above all they want to give the fans an incredible experience after all the waiting, and they want to give a cathartic moment for Larry to grieve his father doing what he does best.

I remember in 2005, VH-1 was with them back stage almost up until the moment they walked out for opening night of the Vertigo Tour in San Diego. I remember Edge saying something like it will be "shear panic" when they first get out there, but once they get a few songs under their belt they will settle themselves somewhat. I also remember Bono saying something like he felt sick to his stomach from the nerves, but that he would get over that.

I doubt much has changed.

"It's either all on, or it's all over."  - Bono.

I guess that means they know they have everything on the line, they need to fight to stay a successful band.

Theyalready have a ton of that.   As they say in their various interviews, they want to put on an amazing show and have the audience be really engaged, having thousands singing along with them and be blown away by the whole thing.

I told someone today this will be like a whirlwind to Larry...Imagine rehearsals, then his father dying, two long plane rides, funeral, and now tonight.

The crazy part of all of this is that of all of the shows/tours they have done over the years, and tonight's show is one of the most powerful as far as reflection of the North side, friends and family. Lots of memories. Could be tough.

Larry will have a lot on his mind tonight. Prayers for you tonight.

I'm plenty nervous for them already, I can't imagine what they're going through.

I'm nervous enough, as I said in the News thread, excited/nerves/butterflies/hopeful.
If this is how I feel, how do THEY feel. They had enough on their plate already without Larry Mullen Sr's "perfect timing" ( as Larry Jr said earlier today.)

When Bob Hewson died, Bono was back onstage at Slane raging into his mic, working out his catharsis/therapy freeform in front of a huge audience. Larry...well, it would be different for a drummer. And tonight of all nights. He can't screw up.

Knowing that in an hour's time we, the global audience, may well have the "all over" or not question answered live on the radio/computer..well, we'll all be witness together. As big as that? Maybe. I hope the critics cut them some slack.

10:39 PM EDT. (7:39 PM Vancouver time) now...I might just close my eyes for a minute or two and go into "Pastor Jack" pre-show prayer mode. The band used to have 5 minutes of silence for everybody before the show. In the old days it would be a "group prayer" moment. I wonder if they'll do that tonight. I imagine even Adam might not be adverse this time. :)
