Ha! They have been very overused, for sure.

The claps at the beginning of MOS, Bono's ohhhh's on Fez-Being Born, the ending of Kite and this will get me some hate, but I'm not a huge fan of the spoken word verses of Cedars of Lebanon.

The guitar riff at the end/in the bridge of Electrical Storm (William Orbit Mix) where Bono goes, "Baby, don't cry" . It doesnt seem to fit. And after all that chime-y, spooky atmospheric stuff, it sounds contrived. It hurts my ears when I hear it because it feels so out of place and inserted into the rest of the song. It's also a boring, generic riff.

Also, I kind of lost respect for the lyrics when I realized it was "heavy as a truck" rather than "heavy as a drug." Heavy as a truck reminds me of this commercial that used to be on TV where they had a five year old describe how the sun and he said, "If we brought the sun to the earth, it would be huge. Like bigger than a house!" :)

Neither of these things has completely ruined the song for me, though. I still love it. I just think it has a few flaws.

In contrast, I think the original single version of Electrical Storm is really dreadful.

Thought of this when I woke up, what is something you don't like about an otherwise great song? For example, I don't like the carnival sounds at the beginning of Hawkmoon 269 or the bridge of LAPOE.

Sorry if this has been mentioned already...but, if i recall, that part was played by Bob Dylan no less

Same, I don't get why it is so lauded by fans on this forum. If anything it makes me sleep like a baby.

How Bono's voice sounds on SOI. I don't know what effects/processing they used, but it sounds metallic in a bad way.

And I completely agrees with all the oooohs on NLOTH.

The cymbal-heavy ending of Bad... I find the cymbals to be very distracting.

Also, I didn't notice this until last week when I listened to it, but there's a sound that recurs constantly throughout the background of LEMON! that sounds like either someone rubbing a Styrafoam cup or someone rocking in a squeaky chair, and I find it hard to listen to the song now because it's distracting and annoying.

Oh crap... Now I hear it too :/ why you do this lemon??

And for the lyrics at the end of kite... What the hell. What does that mean? New media... Yeah who's that idea. Seems like a bunch of lyrics written in his bath. For an otherwise really great song...

The hi-hat on The Playboy Mansion. (Hey, I consider that a great song.) Also, that the transition on Staring at the Sun for multiple tracks and takes between "something missing" and "I left it" is not smooth at all. It's the one point on Pop where it feels the band ran out of time to finish up.

For me, it's not that I dislike them so much as they sound like the opening to a completely different song. I'd love to hear the rest of whatever that song is.

The last 4 lines of Kite. Absolutely fantastic song and easily one of the best of the 2000s, but those lyrics never made sense to me in the context of how emotional a song Kite is.

As awesome as Bad is, I've always been incredibly underwhelmed by the studio recording for reasons such as the cymbals. And I love cymbals. I own over 20 of them.

Aaaaaand now I hear the squeaky rocking chair. What have you done?

Nahhh I'm with you and the others, JT. ;) It's all a bit too cacophonous for my tastes as well.
