Sounds really good and promising, but remember we also heard some raw and aggressive clips from the NLOTH sessions and we ended up getting GOYB, IGCIIDGCT  and SUC, so still not getting my hopes up and expectations that the whole album if any of it is going to sound like that clip.
I hope that they learned from their mistakes. Larry thinks NLOTH is U2's worst record, and resents those songs you mentioned. Hopefully, the periodically release new snippets and listen to the feedback from fans as the songs bloom. Not too much where we end up hearing half of the song by the time the album rolls around, though.

I for one hope they don't go this route... that sounds like focus-group testing the music through social media.  Then they'll get some negative feedback and go back in studio for another 2 years.  No thanks...

For those who do not (like me) have an instagram account is this the same thing...?

Why does nobody understand that you don't need an account to watch the video?

I hope they listen to their previous albums to avoid repeating their mistakes. I'm not quite sure they do though.

It sounds a lot like Geek USA from the Smashing Pumpkins.  A killer track on Siamese Dream - a classic from 1993.

Turn up the guitar sound and blow the roof off the studio.  It's Songs of Experience not Innocence.  Innocence has been lost and they are going to come out angry!  Love it.  There was a lot of anger on AB - that is why it is the quintessential U2 album and GOAT in the minds of many.

GEEK USA!  that's what it reminded me of (but not too close to it)  Everyone had been mentioning Muse, and to me, I was still thinking that wasn't quite it.  You hit it!  Also, yes, Siamese Dream is Smashing Pumpkins' be album by far.  One of the best of the 90s

I don't think it's good for an artist to 'ask' of fish feedback. But when talking about feedback: please delete the 'oooooa-woh', that makes it commercial-catchy like The Miracle. But as The Edge said, They're getting to Zooropa. Looking forward to it!

Didn't even hear it! But you're right, after relistening to it. At least we know the vocals are mixed rather appropriately... For now.

It's the guitar from GEEK USA and Silverf#*@, especially the latter.  Listen to the beginning of that song (Silverf#*&), the similarities are striking!  The potentials are limitless when the boys play with a chip on their shoulder.  With all the negative press SOI release received, with all the uncertainty in the world, anger will be the theme of SOE.  As Bono has said in his recent Psalms piece, the Psalms reflect all the true emotions of man - Joy, Doubt, Anger, Fear, etc.  That's why it's his favorite book in the Bible.  Modern Christian music does not embrace these negative emotions - only the positive.  Everything in life is not positive.  Anger is coming.  A hard nosed, edgy U2 that sounds raw and emotional - War or AB in the new millennium - yes!

funny to see Geek USA and Silverrock discussed on a u2 board.

and let's not be so sure this will be an angry album. we heard 20 seconds of one of the demos. look what happened with the "Hong Kong" mixes of Pop that we heard last year. the album sounded nothing like those. same with the beach clips and NLOTH etc.

How right you are.  Let's hope for more lucifer's hands, cedar wood road, and RBW type songs on the new disc.  I love EBW and S4S, but crave for a new BTBS.  At face value, many thought War was an angry album but the true message is surrender and forgiveness.  The boys have always responded with gems after one of their albums is not perceived favorably (O, RH, Pop, and the negative reaction to the SOI release).  SOE should fit that bill - at least we can hope!

It may sound gritty, which is always to be preferred, but it doesn't sound good

Have resisted commenting on the clip all weekend....my thoughts are this:

At 20 odd seconds it is hard to make too many judgements - the main thing that i took from it was the drums sounded more 'front of mix' or more meaty than in a lot or most of their recent work....hopefully that will be the case on the record across the songs.

The clip sounds OK but i reckon you could cut 20 seconds from elevation minus vocals and create a clip that might make people go 'that
 sounds good/raw/aggressive' etc.....

You know what this situation reminds me of?  Back in 1996, in the early days of internet, I had a dial-up internet connection on my phone line.  If I remember correctly, when U2 were recording Pop they'd sometimes have a video or photo shot set up in the studio.  I think I remember they teased the riff from Discotheque before the album was released.  It took me a long time to download that 10-second snippet back then.

Does anybody else remember this, or was I hallucinating?

^ This.

I am excited about the prospect of the album and this raw gritty sound.  However, you could have picked out a 10-20 second clip, minus vocals, from GOYB, All Because of You, The Miracle, Elevation, Miami, etc. (pick any song that a few on this forum like, but that you personally don't [although I happen to like Elevation, but An Tha doesn't]) before its release and come up with the same conclusion - that the next album was going to be punk rock from Venus on fire from the group's mad scientist guitar player who is also on fire and that the next album would be at the top of the charts for 2 years and relevant and the kids would go crazy for an album by artists who are in their mid-50's.

I AM cautiously optimistic, but I will reserve judgement until about one month after the new album is out, once I have listened it to a hundred times and it has started to sink in.
