Will Metallica rain on U2's parade?
« on: August 19, 2016, 08:28:11 PM »
Will Metallica's new single and upcoming album release, possibly steal U2's thunder?

At least we (U2 fans) don't have to wait eight years between albums.

The last thing U2 needs to worry about is sales. You'll sell enough records, don't worry Bono! Metallica won't affect the upcoming tour or SOE, completely different band.

Holy Moses, I had the misfortune of clicking on a link to the new Metallica single and was assaulted by intermittent double-barrelled bass drums and inane distorted guitar riffs that took me straight back to the late 1980s. Great to see their committment to the same tired metal formula is renewed after decades of failed deviations therefrom. About as impressive as if the next U2 album featured sombre serious modulated dotted-8th delay laden guitar backed by a gospel choir.

To much drums, but nice to see their return.

In 2016, with both bands having lost their mass appeal and relevance, and the summer concert and festival season being over, I say there's too little overlap for these things to matter...

I don't think there's too much overlap in the fan bases. Metallica's new single is horrible, it's right down there with SFS.

Yep, they don't bite each other Smee. I'm not worried.

You realize one of those "failed deviations" is a 16X Platinum album (in the US) ?

Or do you have a different definition of "failed" ?

Nah, the only thing they have in common now is longevity.

Metallica's new single is pretty solid though.

Well for starters we don't even know if we are getting a U2 album this year, but even so I don't see how a band of another genre releasing an album has any effect.

The song rocks.

And it's a double album. Oh how I wish U2 would do that with their "abundance of riches"!
