Will U2 release official live audio ?
« on: September 17, 2016, 02:59:08 PM »
Some bands - Pearl Jam, Metallica, Springsteen - offer official audio recordings of their shows in various formats for sale.

Do you think U2 will do it someday ?

voted #2.  not so much because they believe in the DVD format as much as they believe in the optimization/maximization of revenue streams too much, which is the what a single, official release can generate.

Yes, at some point they will begin some sort of archival-recordings series.

Surely if they were going to experiment with this they'd have done so by now?

#2 is the closest option but I wouldn't put the "no" down to maximising DVD/Blu-Ray sales as much as their aversion to betraying any imperfection - releasing every concert live is a loss of control of their archival audio history that I can't see them yielding to (as much as I'd love to see it happen). I would pay $1000 each for officially released soundboard audio from the 4 Melbourne U2 shows I've seen.

Nope, they're perfectionists about whatever they release.

Haven't they already kind of done this with UABRS? I know it wasn't a full concert but it's live audio for sure. Besides there's enough audio content for shows on YouTube which despite not being the highest quality is good enough for me.

Yes i believe one day they will start to release live audio recordings. It's almost surprised me a great deal that they haven't already started doing this, and I think with Springsteen having done this for his River tour this year, expect more bands to follow suit, hopefully U2 as well!
