Who received the promotional message from u2.com?  I haven't re-upped my membership yet, was waiting for the gift to get released, so does that mean i won't get it?

Who knows? While a lot of the people receiving it live in the path of the eclipse, others who received it don't. Plus not everyone in the path has gotten it yet. Maybe it's just a random sampling?
my subscription address is in Oregon just 20 miles north of the totalitarity zone- i didn't receive a mailing :(

That's unfortunate. But no worries, it was hardly readable

Going back to that "should U2 employ modern promo techniques" debate? Hell yes they should.

But Instagram is just the platform, and not even a teenager-exclusive one. It's the ideas that count and there's nothing wrong with expecting U2 to keep coming up with exciting ones!

It's not enough for me that "new music is a big deal for them unlike the Rolling Stones." The Stones have been lazy about new music since 1970-whenever. That's hardly a benchmark and I don't care that the band are grandparents.

If you want my respect, give me what I want. (*And no one gets hurt.)

If Best Thing is first single and Blackout is just an additional for the fans, they should give us the studio version of Little Things too.

Since most of society has the attention span of a sand gnat, in order to keep up momentum of the mail, maybe 8/25 is plausible? Some of the music services like Spotify have new release playlists that come out on Friday.....

Could the other blacked out sentence be 'you're the best thing about me'? I think it could fit (without capitals)

I was wondering that too. It'd fit with the dual release theory, that Blackout is a fan club exclusive and Best Thing is a proper single release
