I think the band knows, deep down, that the last song that will really make it into the true canon of U2's defining music is Vertigo (and probably COBL). Like, when the band is done and there's some definitive documentary about them, nothing they've done for the last 12 years will need to be included. Accept as maybe a footnote.

I agree with your statement. But.

1) That doesn't say anything about the quality of their more recent work, just its popularity. Which has many more factors than quality.

2) If it's us fans going to the shows, we've all heard WOWY and everything else a jillion times. I know they have to play a couple of the classic hits, but I am hoping for just a couple.

I didn't see I+E, so speaking selfishly. I'm hoping for a whole bunch from SOI, after delivering the SOE stuff of course :)
