POLL: Which U2 do you prefer? Rock or Ambient?
« on: March 08, 2009, 08:54:40 AM »
I have noticed that some U2 fans generally prefer the U2's bare, stripped down rock tunes ("Breathe", "Vertigo", live version of "No Line", ect) while others, like myself, don't really connect with those songs, and prefer the more "Eno ambient" songs. ("No Line" album version, "Bad", "Promenade", "Lemon", "A Sort of Homecoming", just to name a few)

So, I know it's obviously more complicated than choosing between two options, but humour me.

In GENERAL: Which U2 school do you belong to? Do you like the synth/eno stuff, or do you prefer to see U2 as a classic "rock band?"

Personally, I love the ambience...the "rock" definitely doesn't do it for me.

I actually like both. Can that be an option?

That's a tough one.  Generally, I'd have to say the rock live, the ambient on the albums.  Although, it has to be said, I've been waiting for them to do a full album of Mofos, Flies, Bullets, and Vertigos, and Lemon is the song I most want to see them perform live, so it's not really set in stone either way.

Both- which style I listen to depends on my mood at the time.

I added "both" for anyone who is inclined to vote that way, though I am curious to see what people would choose if they HAD to make a choice. :)

Ok, I voted for both.  ;D

But, if I HAD to choose, I'd pick the more layered U2.  8)

Both. I prefer more layered but I couldn't live without both.

Would Moment of Surrender be considered ambient?

I would consider it so! Especially the "piano break" closer to the end. It definitely isn't a "rocker."

Well, it would make sense to ask the guys, what music they'd like to make if they had to choose.

 ;)

There was no "both" option when I voted earlier. :P
