So is it spinning? Or is that just me?
« on: March 09, 2009, 10:22:20 AM »
The first few times I looked at the stage views on U2.com, I thought the whole rig was rotating. So, is it? Or is that just showing us different perspectives? "Camera Orbits" makes me think that it's not really moving after all. What the heck is going on?

I doubt it's moving. It's just showing you the stage from all around.

Well if it's not moving, it's a lot less fantastically innovative than I thought it was!

The more I think about it, the less sense the it makes. The simulation on U2.com looks cool and all, but it is very bare bones. In reality, won't Edge's tower of equipment (and Adam's for that matter) block a large chunk of the view?

I doubt it's moving. It's just showing you the stage from all around.

How can it be truly 360 degrees if doesn't spin? That makes it the same as any other stage, except it's just round and set in the middle of the stadium!

Two good questions:

1. How do they get to the circular catwalk?
2. Is it spinning?

Can anyone answer this for us PLEASE?

I like that there is a catwalk, and it makes sense that there would have to be one ramp heading out to the circular catwalk, even though that isn't on the demo.  They would have the "Inside the ellipse" area and the rest of GA, just like in previous tours.  Now, where are the $30 seats?  Nosebleeds or GA?

Looking at the animation, I do not think the stage is going to rotate. The giant "spider-legs" are rotating in the animation an in rel life will need to be anchored. I think the rotation in the animation is for illustration. This wil be like many arena "round" stages in that it will still ave a "front" where Bono will spend most of his time, and a rear (Hi Larry!) but it is all just being done on a much more massive scale than what has been done in arenas.

By the time I sit down and tabulate all the costs (travels, food, accomodations, multiple shows etc) associating with going to the concerts, I am sure the stage will look like it's spinning. ;D

There's no way it's going to spin!

Imagine trying to perform and orient yourself whilst constantly going around in circles. Each band member will have a supply of vomit bags at the ready.

How will Bono connect with the audience? Plucking a girl from the crowd during a song will have to be performed with military precision in order to avoid fatalities! She could be dragged along for 20 metres!  :)

Here's a question.  If it's not spinning, then what did they mean when they said there is no defined front or back to the stage so there will be no seats behind the stage (because there is no behind the stage area)?
