Question about bootlegs from U2start.com
« on: March 09, 2009, 02:05:20 PM »
When I download a song in .rar format, I can't play it with any audio program I have (Real Audio, Creative Media Source, Windows Media Player, etc), nor can I convert it using Switch.

Does anyone out there use this site, and if so, how do you get the songs to play?

Thanks in advance.

.RAR is a compressed format, much like WinZip.  In order to listen to the songs after downloading, you need to extract them (i.e., unzip them).  I use BitZipper which works really well and quickly.

Just simply tell it where you want the files to be extracted and all is good.  once you've extracted the files, you don't need the RAR file any more.

Thanks for the tip. I assume I've got to download BitZipper since when I right-click on the file there's no extracting option, right? That's weird, because I've downloaded and extracted zipped files before (including NLOTH a month ago!).

I'll give it a try.

it must be that the unzip program you used previously does not work on rar files.  i have no clue.  glad it worked.
