Playboy Mansion is great. The lyrics are amazing!

"Banks are like cathedrals / I guess casinos took their place"

Pop = Last lyrically great U2 album

Interesting question.

One of the only U2 songs I ever skip is I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For. I really don't like it, although obviously it isn't a bad song, and it resonates with many people, it's just not good for me. At all.

U2 song development is interesting. Try this one on...

Elevation -> Vertigo -> Boots. It's a progression between those three songs. (I also dislike Elevation with a passion).

Much in the same way that Mysterious Ways -> Do You Feel Loved and Bullet the Blue Sky -> Love and Peace. There are companion songs throught the U2 canon if you look closely enough.

In some ways, Boots is like a not-as-good Discotheque, which is possibly one of the best 10 songs U2 have ever done, so that is hardly a crime.

For a point of reference, the two U2 albums I have least passion for are Rattle and Hum and ATYCLB, and the most passion for Achtung Baby and Pop (by far the most misunderstood U2 album). Given that, I think the new album is on a par with Pop and is akin to a 21st century reappraisal of The Unforgettable Fire. Even if Crazy does sound a bit like Yahweh crossed with ABBA (listen carefully!).

Off the top of my head Cedars of Lebanon is one to miss. Its just a nowhere song and that weird voice thing, who is that! Truly un-U2esque

Discotheque is the worst U2 song ever recorded.

Dirty Day isn't far behind it.

Boots is a great song. However, I don’t think it should have been their number 1 single. As far as bad U2 songs go, I think they are great on their own creative terms, but their covers often make me cringe. For every one good cover song there are 5 bad ones. Their version of "Fortunate Son" is horrible!!! I cant stand it and can never get through the entire song. Their covers of "The Saints Are Coming" and "I Believe In Father Christmas" in recent times are great... maybe their getting better at it  :-\

No JoshuasTree, its not a cover. I was just trying to say that there are a few average cover songs U2 have recorded in the past. Sorry about the confusion. Boots is all U2 and NLOTH features no covers. I think Rattle & Hum is the only "album" to feature covers, all the others [cover songs] are usually b-sides with singles. I actually really like Boots and the new album - just to clear things up
 :)
