Would anyone like to hear streets at the start of a gig?
« on: March 18, 2009, 03:14:55 PM »
I don't know why but I would simply love to hear this kick off a gig, it would be a massive surprise to fans and really get the crowd going, granted it probably won't ever happen as it has taken its place towards the end of the setlist for years now but I think it would be really cool, start with red background ala R & H, I think it would send people into a bit of a frenzy. Thoughts?

It would be cool to see, but I don't think they ever will. U2 prides themselves with being current. They always open up a concert with a song off the most recent album. If they opened with streets, it would be looked at like they can't write good music anymore. Most of the people on this forum wouldn't think that, but casual listeners might see it that way (e.g. The Rolling Stones). For U2, I think the opening song is their way of saying they can still write quality music.

No.  I think opening with it would be anti-climactic.

No it just wouldn't work, the song is now the climax of every U2 Concert.  Playing it right at the start would just remove that highly anticipated moment from the concert.

Wouldnt work? I have to disagree. I know it won't happen, but IMO it would just set the crowd off. Old or young. The song is just that powerful live. It can fit anywhere in the setlist. I remember hearing it on the JT tour, and it is still my fav concert opener. Watch Rattle and Hum. Theres just something about that intro. Now back to the real world, Im hoping NLOTH or Magnificent.

I love Streets but I honestly think they have done it to death and should replace with I Still Havent Found.  ;D

Done it to death? Really? Sorry you feel that way. But hey, there are plenty of songs I could live without on the tour. But Streets just gets me everytime. I still get goosebumps when I hear the live version. I will say I never get tired of ISHFWILF. The way Edge's guitar echoes through the stadium in the Vertigo Milan DVD, is powerful stuff.

considering streets is the song edge wrote with fans in mind. i cant remember where i heard it (or read it) but he said he sat down with his guitar and put himself in the mind of a fan and play the ultimate live u2 song. hence why this song completey and utterly rocks, and should be kept for later in the concert.

weren't any of you around for the Joshua Tree tour?? Stand by me fading out on the speakers while Streets kicked in live. Pure absolute joy.
