Nothing beats Unknown Caller for bad lyrics, but because I don't really like the music either, the lame lyrics don't really bother me.  Same with Babyface.  I used to detest "like a mole digging in a hole" but now it just cracks me up.

"You are rock and roll" from American Soul.  Utterly disconnected from the theme of the song.

refu%&*&%#$%jesus!!! makes me so angry!

Usually Bono makes really meaningful, interesting references to Jesus.  I agree with this criticism though.  "RefuJesus" is just silly.  I'm also not exactly sure what he's trying to get across in Lights of Home with asking if Jesus is still his friend, "what the Hell you got for me"?

I am shocked that only one person so far has mentioned "the best thing that ever happened a boy." For all of our taste issues with this line or that line, this lyric eliminates a simple two-letter word ("to") clearly for no other reason than to force the line to fit the syllable limit and meter. And that one-word omission - for me - does exactly what this thread asks about, which is ruin the entire song ("You're the Best Thing About Me"). I can't hear it enough times to make that okay. Utter nonsense! I'm not sure if I think it makes Bono lazy or insane...I can only say that it makes me CRINGE.

Oh.  I thought it was an Irish thing; i.e., that's how they would say it in Ireland.

Love Is All We Have Left
The line that I don’t like is, “A baby cries on a doorstep”. I wouldn’t say that it ruins the song for me, but I don’t understand the reference. The line reminds me of movies where a baby gets dumped on somebody’s doorstep. I still like the song.

The "spit" line from 'Crazy Tonight.'  Gratuitous and unnecessary, IMHO.

I never was bothered by that, because I live in Ireland, where it is a common turn of phrase. For example, if a boy came home with a grazed knee and mud on his face, his mammy might say "what happened ya?". You get me?

Wasnt there a story about this happening in NY earlier this year?

The Blackout names in the lyrics I'm assuming have been well covered here?

Can one of the audio savvy fans recut it without Ned, Jack, and Zach?

Miracle Drug: "Freedom has a scent...like the top of a newborn baby's head."

American Soul: "Will you be my sanctuary...Refu-Jesus."

GOYB: "Sexy boots!"

The Playboy Mansion: "If Coke is a mystery, Michael Jackson...HIStory" and "if OJ is more than a drink, a Big Mac bigger than you think"

Electrical Storm: "The air is heavy, heavy like a truck"

All Because Of You: "An intellectual tortoise.."

Beautiful Day: "See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out" (still love the song, just hate that it contains the word "tuna")

Grace: Every line of the song

“The blind leading the blond” has always irritated me.
Why?
It is a pun on "the blind leading the blind" coming from Mattheüs 15:1-20 and depicted by Breughel in his famous painting.

Sometimes  being blond is considered not so bright. The blind leading the not so clever, who do obviously not understand that they are being led by the blind. This is a fitting change for a song on an album that adresses looking for spiritually and meaning in a time of empty consumption and superficiality.
